Am I Just One of those People who Don't Go Through SP?

I'll WILD and after a while I'll feel those fabled 'waves' of numbness and tingling that are meant to herald the onset of SP and then... Nothing. I'll have some intensification of HI and HH, with some pretty vivid but nonsensical daydreams, but after a while these fade away and I'm left with the feeling of just wanting to give up.

I feel my 'attention switching' to internal, but I always seem to switch back to external attention a few seconds later, with a feeling of being dropped back into my body/back onto the bed.

For some background info, I've mostly attempted through naps.

I get the same thing, even though I mostly attempt during WBTB. I've found if I lay on my back the feeling of SP is much greater, and I do occasionally get the proper feeling of only my head. I've found I'm steadily getting closer, though I have been trying to do it for a couple of weeks almost every day now, it's just difficult. You need to find what works well for you

It's difficult for me to do WBTB at the moment unfortunately :/

Mm, thats understandable if you don't naturally wake up after every sleep cycle, seems i'm quite lucky. Could always try the vibrating phone sock

You wake up after EVERY cycle? Did you train yourself or does it happen naturally?

Most nights I do, if I don't, I only miss the first one. I just really enjoyed writing down my dreams in my DJ, and I guess I just started willing myself to wake up more often, it happened without me trying

Oh, so it did develop over time? I might try and get myself to do that

      Sorry about that.

Ahem *brings thread back on topic* Having done some further reading I think the issue is that I'm just not clearing my head of my inner monologue enough. :/

      Sorry, my bad.

And yes, I have the same problem. I always read guides where it says to clear your mind of thoughts, or just let them drift through, but I really struggle to do that. I found it easiest when I had a fan on, because I just focused on that noise. But that just stopped the internal thoughts; it didn't help in the later stages when I was trying to ignore external influences :/

Unless you suffer from sleep-walking or another sleep-related illness that enables you to act out your dreams, then you do go through sleep paralysis. I think you're just unconscious of the process. Judging by your description of how you seem to go from external hearing to internal hearing.. then switching back.. it sounds as if maybe you're not letting the process finish before getting too excited or being too aware to where your body goes "Oh.. this person must be ready to get up". Because literally... all you're doing when WILD'ing is going to sleep. If you don't have problems sleeping like normal on nights when you aren't trying to WILD (or naps when you're not trying to WILD), then it most likely is just you keeping yourself from entering the state fully by being too aware, too excited or too [insert other heightened emotion here that would prohibit one from falling asleep].

Thanks for the advice Jeff , I think it is the case that the process of WILDing 'shocks' me back into wakefulness, that's how it feels anyway.

How do I strike the balance between letting myself fall asleep and remaining aware enough to enter a dream lucidly? :/
