Unhappy DEILD, supposed to be easy!?

I love the idea of DEILD. It represents my interests so well, I just know its the technique for me. Its supposed to be easier, faster and more reliable then WILD without the randomness of DILD. Just wake up and dont move. I have a very reliable body clock and I have no trouble not moving when I wake up, which is supposed to be the hard part.

But then I why can't I enter a dream? For all the time trying it, I constantly wake up, stay still and try to imagine my last dream scene. No luck. I go back to sleep, try again after the next dream, same result. I seem to be following the directions correctly, yet i am obviously not. What annoys me even more is that I have no trouble doing it when I am lucid already. Anyone knows what my problem is?

DEILD works the best if you wake up from a dream. Try laying still and not thinking about anything. Just repeat the mantra, "I am dreaming" in your head the entire time. It works for me.

I have had similar issues in the past with DEILD. I use it all the time after waking up from lucids but usualy fail at doing it after waking up from non lucids. I think the reason is you are waking up to much. When I DEILD out of a lucid I usualy do it as quickly as possible. It may feel like your already awake but I believe there is short amount of time between when the dream apears to end and when you are actualy awake. When you wake up non-lucidly your are already fully awake and its much harder.

DEILD is actualy just a variation of WILD. It gives you a shorter amount of time to reach REM. Another reason DEILD out of a lucid is easier is because you wake up out of REM before the REM period is even over and can go directly back into it. From personal experience I can keep DEILDing back into a LD until a certain point when I just cant anymore. I think that is the end of the REM period. You are probably waking up from non-lucids at the end of the REM period and have to maintain your awarness untill the next REM period starts. If you try and wake up during the middle of the REM period it should be much easier. You can use an alarm with an auto shut off and aim for the middle of the REM period or you can use auto suggestion. Which ever you are using now. I don't know how easy it would be to aim for waking up at the middle of an REM period using auto suggestion but I know you can use it to wake up at the end of one.

To simplify what was said above, the reason it probably isn't working right for you, is because you wake at the end of a REM period. The aim is to wake during a REM period. Keep in mind that LDing takes practice and effort, so it's never going to be really easy, fast, etc. unless you're already a natural. Expect to put a little effort into it.

It's not only about staying still. Some people forget about the crucial step where you actually have to try to fall back asleep.

There are also other techniques that are just slight variations to DEILD. I recently started using my own version of FILD. As soon as I wake up, I start imagining the sensation of either my fingers moving, rubbing my hands together, or petting my dog. I focus completely on the tactile sensations. After around 20 seconds, I start to actually feel the sensations and then I know Im dreaming. It has a built-in RC. The key is to practice the movements while awake and really focus on every subtle aspect of the sensations. This makes it easier to recreate in your imagination.

I feel like this works well for people who are tactile learners. Just keep at it, and don't be afraid to tweak or combine techniques so they fit you personally. Good luck man!
