Wouldn't WILDing every night be dangerous?

Maybe it's just the fear of something new.

I'm trying to decide on which technique to use. I've tried using DILD techniques by practicing reality checks but it was too annoying for me personally to keep remembering to do a reality check during the day, so I probably won't use that one.

I'm considering practicing the WILD technique since I am able to alter my state of consciousness, so to speak. I used to meditate every day and was once close to being able to channel, so I think this is not too different from that.

But I'm concerned... Wouldn't WILDing every night be a little dangerous? I mean, I can see how all the other techniques are completely safe but I'm not so sure with this one - with the practicing being conscious during sleep paralysis and all that.

Also, the few times I've tried WILDing have been only more successful at bedtime, and not after an amount of sleep. I think about 2 nights ago, I was able to get to the point where I would hear roaring vibrations, not feel my body or my breathing (quite scary at first but I realized to calm down and trust my body), and see ALOT of hypnagogic imagery, (but when I allow a dreamscape to form in my mind, I always get caught up in the dream (not knowing I'm dreaming) and catch myself falling asleep many times. How do you enter the dream without falling asleep? ) but when WBTB and trying to WILD, I can't focus enough to get those same effects that I get at bedtime. Is that normal?

I also have a theory that REM is really just a state of the body and not of the mind, and that the dream occurs every time you fall asleep, but as you wake up the dream is translated by the subconscious/unconscious mind so it is understandable by us. I have this theory because every time I have music playing in the morning - not loud enough to startle me awake - I wake up and depending on the connections my subconscious mind has to the type of music, my dream becomes that. (ie having Final Fantasy, or other game music playing I have a dream with many connections to said game). I don't have that music playing during the night when I think I'm supposed to have REM sleep by the way. I hope that made sense. XD

I don't see how WILDing could be dangerous. It might have to do with what your ideas about sleep paralysis (SP) are.

For one thing, sleep paralysis is not really a physical thing. It's just your mind disconnecting with your body in order to rest. While the hallucinations can seem extremely scary, it's all in your head.

As for your REM hypothesis (theories have to have evidence) that's interesting, but REM has so much to do with dreaming that I highly doubt it's a body thing.

No, I haven't heard of WILD being dangerous, and I can promise you that it wont cause you to spontaneously combust or lose a limb =D If you think you will be good at WILD, go for it, I hear it is well worth it. I also find reality checks to be a hastle, but there are tons of methods you can try, MILD for instance, that you can do alone or in conjunction with WILD. Good luck with whatever you end up going with though.

Perhaps. Maybe I'm more simply confused about what sleep paralysis really is. My thought is that it's when you're still in your body but you can't move it. Honestly, I accept that part, but what I'm afraid of is making it a habit, like, what if after learning to WILD every night, whenever I relax for a few minutes, not to WILD, but just to relax, I stop being able to move my body? And what if that happened while in the bath or something LOL call me paranoid, but I guess it's just the fear of the unknown.

And that's fine that you don't agree with my theory. I create a lot of theories in my mind so believing that dreams are really just translations has been sort of fixed into my belief system that I don't exactly believe REM the same way as most LDers do. I use REM talk as a sort of analogy I suppose.
I'll just have to see how far I can go with lucid dreaming without REM knowledge!

      Thanks

I guess if I look at it logically, you haven't heard anything about WILD being dangerous because even those dreamer who WILD every night probably don't have any problems with it!

      Hi there my friend,

I guarantee you that WILD is 100% safe(of course, sleep deprivation should be expected). The idea of SP as a force that can damage your body is not true. All the things you experience in an SP are just in your head so no need to worry. Hope this helps
