WILD is not hard for you, it's hard for MANY people, including experienced lucid dreamers. It's not something you can really improve in one day or two, it's more like an exercise you keep getting better at, after many many attempts.

I'll start with the numb feeling. All my WILDs have happened when I wasn't too awake, but was still awake enough to decide to make a WILD. So try not to do them very late, at a point where you feel that if you get up, you'll loose all your sleep. After 4,5/6 hours seems the perfect time ^^

After that, it's more reaching a state of relax. Do not worry about falling asleep, worry about getting comfortable and relaxed. You need to feel like you're in a position in which you could easily drift to sleep. You feel warm and numb, your thoughts can still happen but you just want to feel good. The trick is not to think on anything, is just letting the thoughts flow as they come. Let your mind drift and show you 1k different things, just remind yourself that it doesn't matter, you're not paying attention.

Try to focus on your breaths. But not 100%, more like you're observant of your body's shutdown. Feel the sensation of it on your bed, your weight pushing you down. Doesn't matter what changes are happening, what noises, you just care about being comfortable. At some point, you will feel very numb, but it's not like it's a shift, it's more like a process that goes and goes. If you think you are loosing focus with reality, imagine yourself in a small stone. You're careless about anything, but that little stone, you, is still awake. I like to imagine that I'm a light inside my body, and not really my body.

Another thing you can try, is tiring yourself doing a long WBTB. For example, sleep 4,5 hours, then be awake for around 2 hours (in a dark place), preferably meditating or repeating a mantra. Hopefully, you'll increase REM time in your next cycle, with the added bonus of reaching it faster. Good luck!

One thing you can do to avoid that is to eat 2hours before going to bed, and perhaps a quick snack (if you can avoid, without sugar!).
If the food just pops in your mind randomly in the middle of the night, save a cookie or anything that you can quickly eat. Same with water.

When you lay down to perform WILD, you only want to leave a tiny bit of your mind focused in your objective. This is what will prevent you from falling asleep. It's like a feeling of "zzzz....I'm relaxed and soon dreaming....zzz...I'm relaxed and soon dreaming". It's something you are aware without really having to focus on it. Any other distraction, like a random thought about food, you should not really care. If you got your eyes closed and start thinking "hey that pizza was really tasty" then just ignore it. Just pretend like you are not thinking on anything. Ignore like you ignore the television when you are really sleepy.

Your mind will throw many stimulus at you to see if you react. Thoughts, body feelings (like the need to swallow). Your goal is to ignore them as best as you can. They WILL show up, your job is not to prevent them it's just to be disconnected if you understand what I mean.

I was just thinking the same thing about meditation for wilding.
I think it would work but I'm not realy sure.
What type of meditation would you do?
Because I usually focus on my breathing, and sometimes also what I hear and see (one at a time).
But I heard that focusing on your breathing in wild is bad.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
