Having trouble with Jeff's Free Falling WILD tech..

No one's responding in the thread :/ so I'll just post it here.

I tried this last night as well. I failed. I seem to get confused when you (Jeff777) say to have passive awareness of your thoughts. I've always thought that as being hard, because whenever I notice my thoughts, I always continue them without realizing it. And then once I try to "shake" them out of my mind, my mind goes blank for a bit, and then I think about something else again.

So like, I couldn't really tell when an illogical or weird thought/image came into my mind. I had so much trouble with just letting my thoughts go by.

      Any tips?

      Practicing meditation might help.

You aren't trying to blank out your thoughts; you just want to let them happen without getting involved.

Observe them, but don't follow them anywhere. The process that Jeff talks about is just a normal part of falling asleep, so you shouldn't have to force anything. If you want, you can help facilitate the process of creating random, meaningless thoughts by using the word/image/idea association game I shared in my guide, since it was designed to move this process along while also acting as a decent mental anchor.

Okay! How exactly would you use the association game?
I looked at your guide (which is splendid, by the way) and it didn't really tell me how to.

I suggest you use BillyBob's tutorial instead. Less mumbo jumbo.

Try meditating by counting your breath and after a while you should just suddenly realize that for the last 30 seconds or wateva you haven't been counting. You have been thinking without realizing it. And it's sort of subconscious thoughts. It feels like it thinks it self.

Pretty sure I explain it in this reply, let me know if you still need more clarification, though.

It might be worth writing up a thread on the subject.

Yeah! So that way more people would know about it. It's a great method
Tried it last night, but I looked at my phone clock and noticed I had been "trying to fall asleep" for 30 minutes. I guess it's because I accidentally turned the lights on for a few seconds in my WBTB.

Oh also Mzzkc, I followed your guide when it said to fall asleep like normal, while being passively aware of your anchor of choice. When I did this, I moved a lot, to get comfortable. It seemed I would never be truly comfortable (putting your arm under the pillow for the cool spot, but then it gets warm, so you move it again, etc.). I kept scratching random itches and stuff like that.

Should I limit how much I move?

Your mind wasn't empty enough. You were still waiting for something to happen. You literally need to just fall asleep. But if it's too difficult to keep an anchor and still fall asleep like normal, then I would suggest the DEILD method. It's very similar, except you do it immediately after waking. With DEILD, you're automatically 90% of the way there, so it's easier to get back to sleep. The catch with DEILD is that you need to have the presence of mind to remember to not move a muscle upon waking. This is in contrast with WILD, which allows movement if it facilitates falling asleep.

I tried it last night and it was awesome, within seconds I couldn't stop the flurry of words I was associating, they seemed to suggest themselves, then images popped up to go with words. It's a great way to get to the hypnagogic state quickly.

I know! I noticed that once I said something in my mind, something similar (but completely random) popped up, usually an image, and I went from there. For example, like, a balloon. Then immediately rubber popped up in my mind or something. I can't really remember all that I thought of
