      Falling sensation when trying WILD

I was attempting WILD during an afternoon nap today and my body reached full SP and I kept getting imagery followed by a falling sensation. This is the same feeling I experienced when falling into my first WILD but this time it just kept returning me to SP. I remained in SP and was able to repeat this falling sensation and the imagery over and over again for about an hour, the sensation would roll on every 5 minutes or so. I was hoping to fall into my dream like I did last night but the falling sensation seems to increase my heart rate dramatically and my heart pumps a lot stronger after it. Almost feels like adrenaline.

I saw this was called Hypnic jerk but was not able to find any posts regarding attempting WILDs and experiencing this repeatedly while remaining in SP I was wondering if any one else had experienced this while trying WILDs, how do I get around it, it felt like I was transitioning into a dream but it kept getting interrupted by my increased heart rate. A few times I even managed to stay passive in my thoughts during the jerk and it did not seem to allow me to pass it.

I think hypnic jerk is just one swift jerk of mostly your legs, but could be whole body. This is associated with process of falling asleep.

The falling sensations - like you falling through your mattress, lasts longer than the hypnic jerk and I believe happens just before you enter a dream.

When we dream, our heart rate goes up naturally, and also heart chakra gets more active (at least, that's what I have heard).

Maybe you were not before REM, that's why you didn't enter a dream. But everything else sounds right, just keep trying. Happy dreams

Ah okay, that makes sense, I was wondering before laying down if I would be able to have REM because an hour and a half prior I rode 11 miles on my mountain bike so I am guessing that is what prevented me from entering REM. This is pretty exciting I think I am able to reach that falling point almost at will now

It is said, that you should go straight into REM during your nap, but I guess there may be some exceptions to this. If you can get the falling feeling at will, try WBTB. Get up at night after at least 4.5 hrs of sleep and stay up for anywhere from 5-60 min, until you can think straight, but you are still sleepy enough to fall asleep fast. You have to get out of bed and put the lights on. Happy dreams

Thank you for this tip! The night after my first WILD I tried to just stay still when I woke up after each REM cycle. I found myself falling asleep into an unaware dream.

Last night after reading your comment I attempted WBTB. I tried it after my second REM cycle which usually ends at 3:30. I got up stayed up for about 30 minutes and I was still slightly groggy when I went back to bed. I fell asleep before imagery etc. but I became aware inside my dream almost instantly, I found myself in a hall but I knew I was dreaming I began to lose my dream rubbed my hands together (which was odd because I never recalled having a body in dreams but when you focus on rubbing your hands you almost can feel it, very hard to explain what I experienced) and I was able to re-stabilized my dream

After waking up I was very excited to write in my DJ which caused me to become wide awake. This is the state I believe you were referring to because after writing in my DJ about my lucid dream I experienced my second WILD. The level of detail when being dropped into a WILD is unmatched by any dream I've ever had in my life!

I didn't need to stabilize my dream at any point and I was able to teleport three times in it. I was not able to reach the places I wanted to go but I was able to make transitions to random places. I even tried the reality check where you put your finger through your hand in the dream because I read about it so much I wanted to see how it worked in my dream, it was quite refreshing to see my finger pop out of the other side of my hand .

Try the same thing (not moving) when you wake up from a dream. That way you know for sure you are in REM (unless it's the end of REM) and you are still in SP from previous dream. Think of that dream and within seconds, you should enter another dream, this time lucid. This is a DEILD.

This sound more like a DILD than a WILD. Still good stuff

Same here - never ever saw my dream body before. Great job stabilizing!

WILDs are suppose to be more stable and vivid than DILDs. Good job on teleporting. Sounds like a great lucid. Hold on to this happy feeling and recall it when RCing during day.
WILDs are tricky, because there is so many variables that need to be perfect to have a WILD. I would say, just keep doing what you doing, seems to be working. Keep us posted. Happy dreams

Just wanted to post an update, I've been struggling with WILD the past couple nights but I was able to have one last night. Hopefully this may help any one else that has been struggling.

I naturally wake up after each REM cycle and I have a very regular sleeping schedule. Using this I calculated when my REM cycles would begin. After this alarm I was able to drop into another dream using WILD! Just thought I'd share, never read about this and I'll be attempting it again tonight and throughout this week I'll keep posting updates!

PS - details can be found in my latest DJ entry, summarized to keep this post short =)

Couldnt edit my last post and i just wanted to post an update. For me using alarms before my rem cycle was interrupting my sleep cycle, right before i stopped i went from having 4 vivid dreams a night down to 1 unclear dream. The night i changed back to my normal sleeping habits with no alarms i had a successful WILD.

      Congrats to your WILD!

Some people, including me, don't like using alarms, mostly because it startles you up. So if you wake up naturally, that's great. And if you drink some water before bed and everytime you wake up, that should help with waking up too. Happy dreams
