How long should I be trying?

I went for a WILD a couple hours ago and I laid down for exactly 30 mins, and nothing happened. I felt heavy but nothing else. Should I have laid down longer or what?

I can't do WILD because I'm too restless...

To make WILD easier, you should try WBTB (Wake Back To Bed). When your body is ready to go to sleep and has been interrupted from its sleep cycle it will be easier to sleep.. Also try sleep aids, sedatives, or tranquilizers if you must

But the key is to be patient and not so restless. By saying you laid down for 30 minutes exactly, it sounds like you set a time frame for yourself and then started to get irritated as it didn't work out for you... You can't be impatient with WILD or your mind will be racing with impatient thoughts and you won't be able to "Clear your mind and remain conscious" like you're supposed to.

Try to be more patient, and use WBTB, and see where it goes from there. If you can't be patient I suggest you try DILD and MILD, using a dream journal and studying the qualities of your dreams to better understand them. Though that method is more longterm, it doesn't require all this... meditative state crap that people like me can't even handle.

Perhaps it's not your thing either?

Oh I was patient, and I didn't set a time, that's just when I gave up And I'll try a WBTB tonight, and I am doing DILD atm. But if WILD isn't my thing I will make it my thing

If you're having trouble WILDing, especially in the early stages of it, then you may want to look into DEILD. It's basically a WILD where you skip right to the SP/HH and it can sometimes take as little as a few seconds before you're back into a dream. Plus you can chain them together creating several LDs one after another (my favorite thing to do )

A few months is usually a good time frame.

Also, you seem to be missing the point of WILD. Laying there for hours isn't going to work.

You need to fall asleep at some point. I'd link you to some guides that explain everything you need to know and more, but I'm feeling lazy right now. You can find a wealth of knowledge on the wiki, or even the link in my sig, if you don't feel like scrolling up.

@mzzloc, so I don't lay on my back? Cause if I do I can not fall asleep, and @burke, I do DEILD as sometimes I wake up in SP but I don't try to do it, happens like once a week/couple weeks or so

You should be trying forever. Once you lay down to WILD, never ever get up. It works.

Think about it this way. You should never be able to give up on a WILD attempt. If you are able to give up it means you were keeping yourself awake when you need to allow yourself to fall asleep. Your WILD attempt should only end with a successful lucid dream or an accidental loss of consciousness.

I laid down to try to WILD this morning and after awhile felt like I was not going to fall asleep. Then suddenly I realized that I had fallen asleep and had 3 short dreams in that time (I had actually fallen asleep and didn't realize it). So I would say even if you think you can sleep lay there awhile and don't move, let your mind wander a bit, it will happen. I can't sleep on my back as well, so I wait till I'm really on the edge of sleep then roll to my side.
