The best way to find out is to reality check. When new WILD practitioners try to understand the WILD they complicate it and make the process harder by saying "I only need to reach sleep paralysis and then wait for some sensations and visuals and enter the dream". When first of all the sleep paralysis term is misused, google it and you'll see that sleep paralysis is a sleeping disorder and nothing else. It happens when we already dream! And people that report experience where they were feeling unable to move and then seeing monster etc, are in fact dreaming.
Second of all the process is actually simpler in theory, but more difficult in practice...
In theory you just have to get more aware of your mind than body by relaxation, and then instead of waiting for visuals... create them yourself!
By actively visualize you can actually entertain yourself by just daydreaming, until your focus of the dream is bigger than the physical and timed with REM of course, although you can have very vivid non-rem dream as well.
It takes a little time to learn this, which is why WILD is a very advanced technique. Most of my WILD attempts ends with me becoming more of my normal dreams because I already am in that focus, so it can be used for both MILD and DILD purposes as well.
