I think the idea of a WILD involving Sleep Paralysis if anything serves as a distraction for the dreamer. It teaches the dreamer to prepare and wait anxiously for some extraordinary state of consciousness that is expected to carry you off into a dream at will. And so when the dreamer starts feeling strange sensations and vibrations he starts to panic and think "This is my chance! Sleep Paralysis!" and at the point he lost any possibility of achieving the WILD. The WILD is achieved by a conscious redistribution of attention to something other than the sensations that precede the transition while at the same time maintaining a steady intent to recognize the transition once it takes place. It's kind of like the idea that only way to focus on everything is to first focus on nothing. And it is good to be noted that the WILD is a very subject experience in which everyone has their own technique that works best for them and what works for one might not work for the other. |
