      Question DEILD didn't work?

Hi! Yesterday I tried to do a DEILD. I fell asleep had a wierd dream woke up, didn't move or open my eyes, but it didn't work. I laid perfectly still and everything but still no first LD for me I laid still for about an hour. I then proceeded to just try a WILD, but that didn't work neither I've read that it takes 10 seconds or so to enter a LD when DEILDing, but even after an hour it didn't work! Well for me it didn't Any help? I'd really appreciate it

I'm not sure why you seemed to stay awake for so long. I too had some trouble doing a DEILD this morning as well.
I could wake myself up from the dream (multiple times), tell myself I was dreaming and that I wanted to control it, and then go back to sleep in seconds only to enter the same dream. Yet every time I tried to do something, I would wake back up.

Yeah, it's pretty wierd. This was the first time I tried to DEILD so maybe it will work next time, but still, I really wanna find out why this happened, so I can pervent it from happening another time. And the problem you faced while DEILDing, well I really can't help because I'm a newbie :/

Don't worry, we're in the same boat man. I didn't even know what I was attempting until I actually looked it up today haha, so we're both new to DEILD's

Arcade, I would bet that DEILD's never happen on a person's first try; you might give it a few more shots. There is more to DEILD than just keeping your eyes closed and holding still. If you haven't yet, you might look at the DEILD session of my WILD class, or at Dutchraptor's most excellent DEILD guide. There's a bit more to DEILD than lying still and waiting, as it involves some visualization, some dream recall, and a lot of expectation/intention... mental prep, in other words.

So I suggest you do a bit of research so that you have something to work with when you wake up and want to DEILD (or WILD). Hell, the research alone might be enough to coax a LD or two!

      Good luck!

      ^^This I have to reiterate.

For everybody, who is looking for quick answers. Who is looking for a few tips because he/she doesn't feel like reading a tutorial. (I'm speaking in general here, not about anybody specific.)

Every induction is so much more than just what you hear about it. "Lay down and wait for it. Or wake up and don't move." Yes, these are all true. But there is so much more to it.

The background work, the mental preparation you have to do. The reading of tutorials and threads on the forum. All this will give you one important part in your preparation (other than the obvious gaining of knowledge.) When you read tutorials, you are thinking about LDing. You envisioning yourself how exactly you will do it, you are making plans, setting your intent.

Thinking about LDing let's your mind know, that dreaming and becoming lucid is important to you. Your mind will understand this from your reading, thinking, writing and getting excited about lucid dreaming.

So it's not that we don't want to give out tips. We love giving tips. But tips can't replace reading a tutorial. We can give you ideas, but only after you learn the basics. Then, we can help you tweak it or nudge you in the right direction.

I can't tell you how many times I woke up in amazement, after I just pulled off something incredible I had no idea will happen that night. Each time when either transitioning into a WILD or DEILD, or during a DILD, I clearly remembered something I just read in a tutorial that same evening, or a few days before. The things I remembered were not something I would recall when awake, but I remembered it during my attempts.

Some things take longer to believe or to understand. I kept having one problem and I have read the solution, but it sounded so unbelievable, that it took me a while to believe it. After reading this solution in many different threads, I finally believed it and I was able to do it when time was right.

So, everybody, don't give up after first attempt, or even first dozen. Read the tutorials. Heck, read all the tutorials. If you have already read it, re-read it again before your attempt. It will help you focus, set your intent and get your mind on what you doing. Good luck and happy dreams

I would like to check out those tutorials as well.
I did an unintentional DEILD a few months ago because I was lying down, napping, and I just plain didn't want to get up.
So I remained in the same spot hoping to get back to sleep, and voila! Entered a dream state. (Normally though a DEILD is hard for me to do. Don't have the self-control or patience. ) But I would like to give it an honest try.

And definitely, don't give up after only a few tries. I think it takes most people a few tries just to get the process down, and then it takes off from there.

If DEILD doesn't work after about a minute then you should atop trying. The whole point is to jump right into a lucid. If you stay still, you still have to have the right mindset just like a normal WILD, but it is easier since you woke up into something that is close to the right mindset.

Also, if your REM cycle was over(the time you normally wake up naturally) then you can't just jump back in, since it is no longer there. Your best bet would just to do a WBTB then.

You're not gonna get it on the first try. Just keep working at it and you'll eventually get it. Also, try doing it during a daytime nap every once in a while. Good luck!
