That is the right way to do it. You are not counting for counting's sake. You do not need to get past ten, you do not need to even get the order correct. You are lulling your mind into sleep, but using the counting to know when you have given up on staying aware. Do not ever try to remember your place. If you loose track just start over. It is supposed to be mind numbing, and to prevent you from thinking. If you realize you have stopped counting, then you are not aware enough, just go back to counting. Understanding why you are doing it is important. You are reducing concious thought by replacing it. It also tells you when you are loosing too much awareness, because you forget to count. You want to reach a state where the counting is dream like.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, teapot. Why teapot/ Oh,,, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, what a weird feeling. I wonder what/ Oh,,,, 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on.
