      WILD and keeping mind Quiet

I have been trying to WILD recently because I woke up into SP and learned to overcome the "scary" side of it but didn't get to turn it into a dream. Of course I know you don't need SP for Wild but my problem is just getting to that mind awake body asleep state. All my life I've watched tv till I fall asleep for the most part so I am not good at falling asleep in general but I am improving. What happens is I lay down and a million thoughts run through my head. Yesterday I had very little sleep the night before so I was going to attempt to WILD in an afternoon nap and about 20-30 minutes in laying on my back thoughts still racing even though I was very tired.

What I need help on is my meditation while trying to go to sleep. Also I lay on my back because I have read that it's better that way but I sleep on my stomach more comfortable. Does it really matter the position I sleep in? I don't think it's that I can't follow asleep on my back it's more of the fact that I'm sleeping on my back for the WILD which keeps my mind racing and I'm waiting for something to happen. Should I repeat my mantra over and over or try to focus on my breathing? Any tips would be great even on wild in general as I have yet to WILD on purpose successfully

Posted in wrong section if someone could move to Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams (WILD)

I used to struggle with sleeping still do actually but I think I can offer some help whether its useful or not is another story hopefully its reliant...
extinguishing the inner monologue becomes easier and easier. I would start by just staring at the "blackness" behind your eyelids and just stare with out thinking if a thought pops by either observe it passively or shut it down completely and return to staring in to the "blackness" keep doing this until it gets easier to just ignore them.

Thoughts will subside but to go hand in hand with this you need to relax so make sure you're breathing softly but deeply and your body is not tense also relieve all pressure from your eyes this will be helpful because once you hit REM you may bug out like crazy my eyes used to feel like mini seizures.

I normally start by laying on my back to relax then when I feel more sleepy go to a position on my side which I am more comfortable with this can really improve my chances rather than lay on my back. All in all it doesn't matter which position you do it in as long as you hold on to you consciousness. Hope this helped I wish you the best of luck in to the non-physical

Staring into the blackness seems like a much easier approach then the ways I have tried and will have to work on it for sure. I always thought you had to lay compeltly still so switching from your back to your side would ruin it? But that's great newsbecause I can easily get relaxed on my back just not fall asleep

You can see it all the way through in one position if you wanted but for me I start on my back... relax then when I feel relaxed deal with issues like itches, dry mouth and any other irritations then switch to my side offering me kind of a pit stop but cause I am relaxed and switch to a comfier position it feels like I get a head start its just my preference so if you feel up to it give it a shot ?

It's normal to have racing thoughts as falling asleep. But if you notice, as you get closer to fallling asleep, they may turn into images. Those are the HH, or beginning of a dream.

You say, that you normally fall asleep to the TV. I used to do that too quite often. What I used to do, is I watched TV till I'm close to falling asleep, then I turned it off to WILD. And yes, mantra would keep the thoughts away.

Another thing is, we get excited when we decide to WILD. So try to tell yourself, you are just going to sleep normally. Then when you nice and sleepy and falling asleep, start with mantra.

You should be in comfortable sleeping position, so you can fall asleep. A different than usual position could be recommended, if you fall asleep prematurely when WILDing. Then this unusual position could keep you awake longer, just enoough to get you to your dream while aware.

So, yes to normal sleeping position and to mantra. Good luck.

You have to try different positions to see what fits you best. There's a lot of trial and error. I've experimented with several and i found my own.
I tried laying on my back but is uncomfortable for me. With this, i stay awake and it's very hard to fall asleep. Also, some pain on the back starts to appear.
Then i tried the most comfortable for me, which is on my stomach. But i fall asleep fast and i loose WILD.
So i tried on my side. It's not the most comfortable but not the most uncomfortable. So, i don't fall asleep fast and i do not stay awake for too long. And it works.

As for thoughts, that's normal. Do not try too hard to ignore them. Just let them be. Luckily, one of those thoughts turns into images like gab said and you have a nice dream.

Well after reading what you all have said I was able to make huge progress on my last attempt. I tried staring into the blackness then rolled over to a position in which I was more comfortable and started to see shapes and colors and could feel vibrations. I am positive I would have made it farther but just at that moment my alarm went off that I forgot to turn off and ruined it. I think as long as I am patient enough and don't try too hard it will eventually come to me now so thanks everyone for the advice.
