So I tried WILD... I got some small HI but didn't enter SP. The only problem I have is that my mind ends up thinking on one thing too long and I feel asleep. Any tips to keep myself awake so I don't drift off into sleep? Should I count my breaths? Because that's what i've been hearing. What other methods do you use?

      1. When you hit SP, keep telling youself "I am in a dream" or "I am lucid". Sometimes I also tell myself to "look at your watch" and when I am asleep I do.

      2. Yep, focus on breathing. Works too.

      3. I talk to myself sometimes. For instance I might think "Oh, that was funny talking to Conzo. I wonder if I'll see him in a shared dream tonight" or "Damn, that guy on the bus was weird. Maybe he will be gone tomorrow". Just those sort of random thoughts as if you are recounting your day.

Maybe you wrote it in a dream

I"m curious too about why a nap is so special and does not need us to go through REM sleep and such.

The best I've had in WILDS is REALLY realistic HI... but I've waited for an hour, seeing this amazing HI, but never being able to get into the dream... I think I'm doin somethin wrong, but not sure. I guess I don't really try to WILD too much because it always causes me sleepless nights/drowsiness/wasted time
      Lolwut.

When you see HI you are urged to gaze it it and let it pass, rather than focus on it too much. Or try spinning it around.

As for the REM. Apparently so many hours after you wake up there is still some REM there or something, which is what is used for naps. Could someone explain it better than me?

I can never get even to SP. I get mild HI before I get to SP but I always end up falling asleep into a non-lucid dream. I guess I need to find a way to keep myself aware and not fall asleep? I try counting my breaths but I end up getting bored of it then stop and end up drifting to sleep. Any other methods of staying aware while trying to get to SP?

On the good side, my WILD didn't work but at least I had my longest dream recall I've ever had this afternoon!

I know what you are saying. Last night are went to do a WBTB and thought to myself "I am dreaming" but I forgot about it and fell asleep. On the 3rd try it worked. Persistence?

I seem to be affected by Murphy's Law of WILDing. Anything that can go wrong will. Phone calls, Sleeping, People talking to me, Anything.

      Sigh, I fail at WILDs.

My theory is that when I was young, I would frequently (Several times a night) Feel the vibrations that people describe as the onset of SP. (This is actually what got me into lucid dreaming) Anyways, being the clueless four year old I was, I had many crazy theories to what they were. Earthquakes, Aliens, Me going crazy... But I was scared of them. I found it very uncomfortable, and eventually learned to stop them, by moving, opening my eyes, whatever. After a while it stopped completely. Since then, I've only experienced It a few times, intentionally. Is there any way that I could have a mental block/ And don't tell me that the vibrations are normal, and that they're nothing to be afraid of, I know that. I want to know if anybody else has had similar experiences, or how I should beat this.

Ehh, Sorry about my life story guys , but I really want to WILD.

I try counting breaths and notice that if i only count my inhales that i go into this weird half awake phase and keep counting automatically,I can easily count to 200(400 breaths) even when I'm really, really tired.

This might be a long post and half off topic so bear with me.

As far as wilding during naps, my guess for why it works would be that it has to do with melatonin levels... because of your circadian rhythm you have two peaks of melatonin, one at night when you sleep and a weaker one in mid-afternoon. Thats why most people have a desire to nap in the afternoon and some cultures have siestas. If melatonin helps regulate the length of your rem cycle maybe that amount of melatonin in your body in the afternoon is more similar to what it would be after you have slept for several hours giving you a longer rem cycle? But thats just a guess, with just enough science to get me in serious trouble.

I also have some questions about wilding...
I always experience the sleep paralysis but run into a few problems. Whenever I feel the tingly sensation my body responds by tightening up all of the muscles in my body... its very strange. I have tried to just relax into it but usually it gets so distracting I become way too aware of my body and cannot actually fall asleep. It even led to a charlie horse recently, which baffled me because I thought SP was supposed to keep your muscles from moving? Anyone else had this happen? Because of this I have only had one successful WILD...
The other thing is I never experience HI, or at least I never see anything. I always hear things instead. Which is not neccesarily a problem but it doesnt give me a dream scene to fall into. The one time I did have a wild I just went from hearing music to a dream with no transition.
      Anyway.
Lastly, a positive thing I have found is that even though the vast majority of my wild attempts have failed because I give up after 30+ minutes. They end up sort of succeeding, but more like a mild. I will try to wild, give up, and then go to sleep. Then 30 or so minutes later I will either wake up in real life in SP for about 10 seconds and then go straight into a lucid dream (almost like the Wild got delayed or something) or "wake up" (FA) in SP realize something is different and just get out of my bed in a lucid dream. Its strange, the attempt at wilding seems to work as a mild for me, making me have a FA in sleep paralysis.... Just last night this led to one of my best lucid dreams yet, but it wasn't really a WILD
Does this happen to anyone else?
