      Attention switching

      I was reading through the WILD tutorial and I don't fully understand attention switching

      You start of externally and then switch to internal. I really don't understand what this means. What am I supposed to focus on? I thought that the point is to not focus on anything as it can ruin the chance to go into SP and LD

      Also, it explains that your mind dips in and out of conciousness. I get HI that fully washes over(starts as spots usually, then they slowly get bigger) and fills my viewing area (usually a sky blue color and some darker blob tree-like sillouets). Is this just HI still going on, or is this my mind "dipping" and I could actually do a V-WILD/VILD? I've tried to form a scene but it never develops and it fades away

      I've never had a WILD, but it was my understanding that the attention switching was just a point in time during the WILD, not something you had to consciously make happen. But I could be wrong if there are any other, more informed opinions out there.

      I'm going to bump this because I want to get back into trying to LD, and if I can take a nap and try to WILD, then all the better

      Attention Switching is like turning off all your links to the outside world and switching on your links to the dream. Say the room across the hall or next to yours has a TV turned on. And say that you want to enter a dreamworld where the TV doesn't exist/isnt on.

      So while your body is in real, you are experiencing with your sense of sound the noises the TV makes. While WILDing, the idea is to stop focusing on external stimuli (usually sounds like a TV) and work on opening up your dreamscape. Once you stop hearing the TV, that link to the real world is gone. Keep in mind if you lose focus in the WILD it may link back.

      If you dont understand I can try and explain more.

      That sounds like what I thought was HI. I have a fan constantly going in my room, but while I'm trying to get into SP, the noise of the fan will sometimes fade away, but then comes back, so could that be attention switching, but I haven't realized it? I was kind of trying to get my focus off my body so I could enter SP when I notice it

      Yeh, that could be attention switching. You were linking and unlinking the sound of the fan. It seems hard to WILD when there's so much noise and you can't focus. I find the WBTB easier because my senses are toned down for sleep, and are almost muted. it makes it easier to focus on thoughts. Good luck mate. :-)

      Actually, I have a hard time sleeping without my fan as white noise, lol

      So what is the basic concept to use when AS? Do I focus on external stimuli (I thought you weren't really supposed to do) like white noise, and the prickles/ tingles on your body, and then when you get more HI you focus on internal stimuli like HI and body numbness? What am I looking to focus on for both of those. I have ready the tutorial, but it's really an overview, and I haven't found out much else info

      The part I quoted is exactly right. Focusing on HI makes it stronger. With less links to external stimuli, it's easier to Hallucinate.

      The first part of your sentence seems faulty to me. It's more about focusing internally the whole time. White noise makes sense to focus on as well. I'd experiment with it. If thinking about the fan doesn't work, just try to work on thinking about other things. Like constructing the dream body.

      I do get micro dreams when trying to get into SP, and I try to hold onto those and expand on them. Kind of worked last time I tried it, but didn't really develop into anything more. Maybe more practice getting to SP is all I need
