      WILD scares me :/

I enter into WILD so often. I don't even try. I never tried. I haven't heard of them until I was curious of what really happened the night I was going through my first one. When you don't know what's going on, it's so frightening. When most people enjoy WILD, I really dislike them.

I'm mainly scared of them because of the sleep paralysis and the very, very intense vibrations I get. I have to calm myself down just to get out of them. But that's not it, every time I let my mind wonder off, the same thing happens and I have to do it all again. The only way they stop is if I get up for a little while then go back to bed.

And suggestions on how I can not be so scared of WILD, I'd actually like to see what I'm missing on. Thanks.

I know exactually how you feel your not alone. The worse part is what is going to happen next that's what scares me the most. But just try and remain as calm as you can through this you will eventually get that Lucid Dream you have always been wanting. Hang in there .

I always got through it (while I still found it scary) by telling myself, "It's not real. It can't hurt me." This helped a surprising amount. I would tell myself, "Just one more minute... 30 more seconds..." etc. even if it wasn't true, because I work better with a time limit. After a while I got used to it (amazingly!) and now I lie through it just thinking "Whoa. That's new." or "I like this part." or "this is like a roller coaster!"

So it gets better with time.

Wow at least you can go through it I have a hard time trying to convince myself it's not real but it still seems to scare me. I guess time does tell and I love that Roller Coaster feeling it's fun. Time limits always work with me because I also tell myself just a few more minutes and we could of been in the Lucid Dream.

Try to pretend instead of seeing things you're just watching a strange but cool / entertaining movie

Yeah that's what I was thinking for my next one I will pretend that either I'm watching a movie and what I hear is just a Possum or a Bat or something else non scary. Even though it's all in my head . Does Sleep Paralysis experiences happen differently or are they all the same?

I feel like telling yourself it is not real is sort of counter productive. What you should be telling yourself is that it is completely harmless. It is real, in that it is a real sensation, or experience. The roller coaster analogy is probably the best or easiest to focus on. It is a fast paced and bumpy ride that takes you to the dream. If you relax, it can be fun (and this is the only way to be successful anyway) and it is especially fun when you get to the dream.

Yeah I seem to go pretty ok on the Roller Coaster sensation for a few minutes until it gets crazy or something. It's just the Sleep Paralysis and Hypnagogia that really scares me to the point where I feel really sick so I abort it to calm myself down for awhile. So I'm just going to go with the flow next time see where it goes. The buzzing doesn't seem to do any harm to me either I'm fine with that I actually like it because it gives me an indicator.

Yes, the buzzing is a good thing to focus on. For me, it increases and increases and then suddenly stops and there is an intense quiet. That is the signal that I am dreaming.

Yes I mainly focus on my buzzing noises but as soon as different scarier noises happen I get distracted from the buzzing and it prevents me from getting further. But next time I'm probably just going to focus on my buzzing instead of anything else and focus on my Visual Hypnagogia. Who knows they could be different because my first one was a bunch of men talking outside that didn't scare me one bit. But the second one was the one that got me shaken pretty bad there was this creature like thing shuffling. It came slowly near me and as soon as it came closer it started going really fast and close and I could hear a growling noise didn't sound normal at all kind of sounded like a pig snorting and something else that has a uncool growl.

dude, nothing you read or do is going to help you, what happened with me was that time went by and after enough mental preperation, I just got to where I wanted to experience it and after having an LD through WILDing it becomes fun, because I was horrified at one time.

Yes, I have been able to get through it, I"m known for my willpower...
But occasionally I have woken myself up (e. g. when I thought I felt someone grabbing at my ankle :S it was freaky

I disagree that there's nothing you can do though. Things such as deep breathing and pretending it's some kind of movie/interactive game help. Also, something not many people know is that you can consciously alter hypnogogia in much the same way that you can control regular dreams. If it gets really bad, you can try to control it in some way.

Yes I have somehow gotten rid of my fear of it and let it take me to where I want it to. Can you seriously control Hypnagogia if so how?

Yes, you can seriously control hypnogogia. How is kind of a mixed bag.

I find that if I imagine a sound for long enough during the beginning of a WILD, it eventually turns into hypnogogia (I tend to get audio hypnogogia strong and early, and visual... sometimes not at all ) As for hypnogogia that is already happening, if you think about nicer thoughts that often helps, and also just imagining a different soundtrack, or just 'yelling' at the menacing voices. I read a hilarious thread earlier about a guy who did this when he heard menacing whispers, and he turned them into two gossipping females. He heard "Oh... my... god. Her butt... is so... big! It's just... like... out there!" and then the song "I--like--big-- butts and I cannot lie..." started playing as per his wishes made me laugh!

That's good because I wanted to make my Hypnagogia a favourite song of mine it would be awesome and would make getting into the dream a breeze. Yeah I usually always get the audio ones but I also get the visuals too so I picture a nice scene. I remember that thread I was reading that not long ago today it made me crack up that was hilarious maybe I should make mine do something hilarious.

Yes. Basically, if you want to control tactile hh, imagine what it feels like etc. If you want to levitate, for example, imagine getting lighter, much much lighter, rising above your bed, just floating etc. To get rid of unwanted people grabbing bits of you or the old hag, tell it to get off or ignore it. Things you ignore in dreams goes away, and vice versa. Same for hh.

Visual sensations are harder. Imagine something similar happening, eg if you imagine yourself at the movies you may see the movie, or someone next to you.
