Thread: DV Academy Banners, adverts, icons, badges needed!!!

Anyone have any ideas for badges or icons? I'm thinking that professors and students could have a small icon, while badges could be given out for those who had completed certain classes.


Couple of small ones I threw together. I know we have a lot of creative members though, so I'm excited to see what we can come up with

Sounds like a good idea though Illl have a mess around in Photoshop!

Yea, if possible it could fit easily right underneath the avatar, like the gender icon. That way when you post, people can take a look and say, "Oh, this person has done the academy" and a quick check of their profile (for the badge) would let you know which course they'd taken.

Hey everyone! In case you haven't heard, we're working on a program called the DV Academy which will be a replacement for the adoption program that will provide a variety of courses to all DV members interested in taking them. There's been some discussion in the DV Academy forum if you're interested, but I wanted to make this post for the Art team because we need a few different images and we have a lot of talented artists on the site

• Banner(s)
  • A simple, attractive banner about the Academy that could be placed somewhere on the site and serve as a link to the Academy forums
• Advertisement(s)
  • Same as the banner, or
  • Individual advertisements for specific courses, that would advertise "NOW OPEN" or "TAKING APPLICATIONS!" when a course was taking applicants so that people would know when to apply. Tentative course list is here, accepted courses so far will be [Intro to Lucid Dreaming][DJ, Recall, and Dreamsigns-(or any other catchy name that you can come up with!)], [DILD]. Workshops on these topics might also end up being held, in which case it would be cool to have advertisements for them.
• Badges
  • These are essentially the 'diploma' that someone will receive when they complete a course. The badge will be kept on their profile to demonstrate that they've completed a specific course, so they should be representative of the course in some way (feel free to be creative and go all out!)
• Icons
  • A decision hasn't been made yet on what the icons should represent, but these would be similar to the gender icon beneath someone's avatar.
  • At the most basic level, these could be icons that signify that someone is a current or graduated student or a current professor.
  • If possible, they could be versions of the badges that could fit under someone's avatar, signifying what topic they are knowledgeable in so that while you are reading a post, you can see that they've studied some topic in particular.

Here are some that I have come up with, but hopefully the DV artists can come up with something better!!

hmm, you could use this for Supplements course, it says "LD Shake" lol. ill try and come up with more, im bored.

The LD Shake thing is a cool idea.

But the how is gears relevant to DV academy?

i was thinking along the lines of thought process, maybe put them in a person for dream incubation, or logic.

That gave me an idea, a cup full of liquid with a straw, and the liquid level going down, and as the cup empties you can make out 'LD' or something.

Definitely like your ideas James, thanks for posting! I think the gears could be used in a lot of different ways, and it's a catchy animation too!

Discord I really like that idea! The heads look a little unfinished, but otherwise awesome. Maybe dark heads outlined in their respective colors? I dunno you're definitely on to something though.

I don't know, insight. I still think my points make it an implausible system. After talking to the admins, too, I'm not sure how easy this is going to implement. After speaking with them today, it will probably be a system of badges that get added individually.

Hopefully that looks a little better to you. If not, I don't get impatient too easily and i'm out of school for another week so keep giving me ideas or have some other people check it out and offer some suggestions and i'll try to keep altering it until you settle on something you like and everyone else likes.

This, it's different and puts out a very good night time feel to it.

Hmm, what about having them face one another? It'll help condense it as a banner, and make it seem more like they are interacting and transmitting to each other?

Yea that was the first idea I had too. I just figured it would look cool if the light streaks were like brainwaves coming out of the brain or something. I'll face them together and try to get them looking the best I can. I'll repost it as soon as I get it done. Like I said, i'm open to all your suggestions. I just want to contribute to DV in some way since I'm not an expert on LDing (YET!)

* Could it be that the text of DreamViews Academy or DV Academy is written inside the moon (because it's round and we are talking about round badges all the time). So it could be an imitation of the badge.

It's nice but I don't really like the heads. Could one be male and one be female...and could they be younger people? Right now they look like old men. Also could the heads be made smaller, and the DV Academy text be made to be more prominent in the image, since really that is the main focus. Also what about using blue and white to match the rest of the site instead of green and orange. Were those colors arbitrarily chosen?

As for the massive amount of badges under people's avatars...I really do not like how that looks at all. But I don't really have a suggestion just yet for what might look better. I'm very busy right now, but will try to give some feedback if I get a moment.

Thank you guys for your input and suggestions! The image was something just off the top of my head so nothing is really carved in stone yet. Keep the suggestions coming and I'll try to accommodate all of them so we get the best looking banner possible. I'll work on them a little later today and post a few possibilities. Everything is all good already. Just to add - could there be a little sign or an icon on the WILD and DILD cours books or at least on one of them that would give a hint what it's all about.

Ok. We have had a great brainstorming here and guess you know the technical part better so to make the final decision.

I try to sum up what I see would be ideal:
* badges are displaied under Avatar and without any further click you understand the DVAcademic quality of that person.
* If needed, a click on those icons will lead to a personal profile with all the badges in there (TOTM and TOTY included)
* badges of graduated courses and courses you teach are different (IMO not too necessary - an extra badge or a badge variant for the course you are at the moment taking).
* badges take little room (don't drag each post even longer)
* badge is better than words because we think faster in pictures.

So much of dreaming is represented by the moon and dark and night. People forget it can happen during the day, too

Summary so far for badges:
* We started off mainly with idea-based badges. RC sign was a hand pointing through a hand etc.
* Moved on to usual badge-shaped icons. Mrdeano & Shift/Cloud & CC have made their contribution here.
* We have discusse how to display the icons (under avatar and how?)
