Tell Me: What Technology Do You Think is Detrimental?

I'm asking this because I have to write a small essay on it by tomorrow. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a technology that's done more harm than good. I know every technology comes with ups and downs, but is there one or more than have just had an entirely negative effect on society as a whole?

Any input would be appreciated.

Yeah. You can write pages upon pages on how it contributes to obesity, lack of intellectual development, violence (though that is controversial), racism, sexism, teen pregnancy...

I've gotta agree with that, for the most part.

I wouldn't say it's had an entirely negative affect, but it's definitely up there.

Edit: O, yeah definitely, it'd be tough to come up with something that has had an entirely negative effect. I suppose some positives come from educational programs, and maybe TV gives a chance for family to relax together...

Mes Terrant is correct. There is a good book you should read on this subject. I think it is 4 reasons for the abolishment of T.V. The title is misleading because it goes into many many more reasons (sub reasons if you will...).

In general T.V. and arguably computers contribute to the dimming of the mind is what the book gets at.

I would have to say though Aviation/Planes.

They have been used as weapons of death. Just look at all the wars since world war II and look at the carnage planes have caused.

They cause poloution and help move people from place to place much faster then otherwise which has its own negative consequences that i will think of....Later

lol mes. T.V. with our help she would get an A. But yes T.V. is a huge influence on culture. More people watch t.v. than read books. 60% of americans are coincidently overweight.

Edit: i don't think the internet dumbs down the mind as much as T.V being there is a lot of unbiased info on the internet. documentaries apon documentaries. lectures apon lectures. with less annoying t.v. commercials and what not.

Nuclear Energy? Though I would agree with that more than TV, except its too overdone.

Straightening Irons. Those damn things have done more harm than good, and I've got the burn mark on my hand to prove it.

In all seriousness though, I think from the worst would be something of the three mentioned so far. TV, Nuclear technology, or Guns.

I don`t think guns or other weapons are good subjects, their use is inherently violent. It`s better to take a technology that was originally intended as beneficial but has been corrupted in some way.

But the point is moot, because you needed it for today, right
