oh my god, why the hell did britain have to make knives illegal. i would probably carry a swiss arrmy knife if it wasnt illegal. if i was getting mugged or something, i'd probably use it as a threat, i really dont want to hurt someone, but i know i change when i get angry, so i would probably end up killing them. i would actually probably carry my BB gun everywhere if it wasnt illegal aswell, i love that thing, and im not afraid to use it.

My woods jacket pockets (it's a BDU heavy jacket, I have three I change out):

Left breast: Spent cartridges, I don't like to leave them laying around after I'm done shooting. Plus you never know when a spent shell might come in handy as a makeshift whistle.
Right breast: Fresh rounds or magazine, small odds and ends I don't want to have to dig for in the bigger side pockets.
Left main: Knit cap (toboggan, we call it down here), harmonica (there you go, Robot), various things, and my hatchet sits in this pocket most of the time, as it has a bulky clip-on blade cover and I've not had a belt sheath made for it yet.
Right main: Everything else. Gloves, dog leash, extra paracord, box of cartridges if I've got my gun with me, another knife in its sheath, a whistle on a lanyard, a paint can key, a putty knife, maybe a screwdriver. Just depends on what I'm doing at the time, and what I left in there the last time I wore the coat.

My nice work/town jacket has a ton of pockets, most inside.

Inside upper left: Creative Zen 16gb MP3 player and earbuds.
Inside lower left: My cellphone when I still used it.
Outside right: Granola bar, camera lens cap when shooting.
Outside left: Bandanna or toboggan, my hand to keep it warm.

When I wear my hoody under my jacket, my MP3 player and earbuds goes in its front pocket.

@ Slash: I know what you mean about your BB gun, those things are fun to plink with. I need to get out my BB pistol and buy some CO2 cartridges, and go set up some cans. Heh, I'm not even sure where the thing is now. I've got a little Daisy Buck too, fun for goofing around with.

I'd not advise using a knife for self-defense unless you really know what you're doing with it. My grandfather used to say, "Don't pull anything on a man you wouldn't want shoved up your ass." Basically meaning that if you don't know what you're doing, it's pretty easy to be disarmed and have your own weapon turned against you. I'd just carry a stout walking stick if you're worried about defending yourself. You can do a hell of a lot of damage with it, it has far better reach, and there's less blood. It looks a lot better to law enforcement, too, if you hurt somebody that attacked you with a walking stick instead of a knife. A walking stick is also a lot more effective again animals.

Sure, it's not as 'cool' as carrying a knife, but then that all depends on how you carry it.

One thing I've learned from living with my professional-martial-artist-girlfriend is to never carry a weapon. She and her friends just train all day on how to take peoples weapons right out of their hands and kill them with them. I don't carry a knife because I don't want to get stabbed. I don't carry a gun because I don't want to get shot. The only weapon I would ever carry would be a well trained German Shepherd.

      Ray, you rock.

Also, you reminded me, I always have Zen dog treats in my coat pocket as well.

Can we amend this thread for the chicks? We keep minimal amounts of things in our pockets. But our purses could compare to the crap you keep in your pockets. It would make this thread more interesting.

      Just throwin' that out there.

But it would have to be limited to like, handbags, not your huge school bag or backpack or anything. Cause that would skew things. But the contents of a womans average sized handbag are comparable to the contents of a mans millions of pockets.

thats a very good point, but i still like to have my bb gun in my room, ive thought out loads of situations on how to use it if someone robbed us, where to shoot the guy, when to shoot etc. (i know, im sad, i dont know why i do it, but it makes me feel safer and more prepared)

and to be honest, i probably wouldnt actually carry a knife
