      Why can't i lucid dream?

hello, my names Brandan and i am new to the site. I have been trying to become lucid for about 3 weeks now. I have tried a lot of things. I have done quite a few reality checks daily and have been trying the DILD technique. I write my dreams i remember in a journal. I usually remember about a dream a night. I also have started something i learned yesterday, where i write something on my hand and look at every so often, and in a dream the words won't look the same. I use the word: awake

So i was wondering what can i do to achieve lucidity?

Even my friend i told about it has attained it just from me telling him about it!

I take melatonin every once in a while when I'm not to tired.

Please help me, thank you so much!

      Welcome Brandon!

Don't worry just keep RCing and keep a DJ and you will have a LD in no time. Also, be confident because you need motivation! Use auto-suggestion every night before sleep and experiment with different techniques if you want to. And you should always question your surroundings while awake and always be aware! It takes time, dedication, and motivation, but at the end its all worth it.

      Good Luck!

Anyone can learn to lucid dream Brandan, all it takes is commitment and dedication. I had my first LD after practicing for about a month and that is somewhat early on. It takes many people months or even a year before they have their first one. So you are right on track. The most important thing is to keep a regular dream journal and practice waking awareness. See something strange during the day? Do a RC and seriously consider that it could be a dream.

I actually haven't had a LD in about 3 weeks now but I am not letting it get in the way of my learning process. With enough practice of waking awareness, it will carry over to your dreams and you will be having lucid dreams regularly.

thanks for the tips, I lost motivation for a few days partly due to my impatience

but I won't lose motivation again. I am getting a pretty regular schedule of sleep, with about 7-8 hors a night. I was using my iPod notes app for a dream journal, but the light kinda hurts my eyes in the middle of the night so I'm using a physical note pad now. I actually use my own reality check, it's silly, but before I go to bed, I write the word awake on my hand and from now on when I'm dreaming I will look at my hand, but the words won't be the same. I'm gonna try it tonight!

Have you checked out the MILD tech? It's one of the best. There's some tutorials around here. Or you can purchase "Enter the world of lucid dreaming" by Stephen Laberge. Not only is the MILD technique better explained in the book, he also has an exercise to improve your prospective memory, which is the key ingredient for MILD.

      Dont RC.
      Dont work.

just dismotivates you, and no effect.
Just RC to make sure that you are in a dream

You open the door, and throw away the keys. Someone is my head, but its not me.

I don't know... You can't question whether you're dreaming unless you start doing it when you're awake. RC's do work, it's just that people go about them the wrong way. RCing shouldn't demotivate anyone unless RCing is their ONLY way of trying to achieve lucids. Reality checks should just be secondary to someones efforts, not primary. Just saying.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

I remember my first lucid dream. I was probably around 5 or 6 but instead of trying to change things physically in it I just shouted NO because someone was about to get hurt so I tried to stop him from doing it. Dumb ass dream character went ahead and did it though (it was my cousin) and got his fingers bit off. It was from a dream I had the same exact dream many times before but I never tried to stop it before. I changed little things about the dream each time I had it until I got to where I could stop him froom doing it all together. Oh and one time I just walked away from it so I didnt have to watch it happen. And one time as I started getting skilled at Lucid dreaming (I didnt know what it was called at the time) I started just getting rid of the creature or teleporting myself somewhere else (a cruise with all my friends once)

ETWOLD is very helpful and enlightening, and comes in PDF format on the internets.

Naiya's MILD is one of the funnest techniques I've come across, and has helped me achieve the most lucids. Everyone is different, but I've found this technique to be particularly effective, and easy to do. It took me a month to have my first lucid, and I still have them sporadically (though to be fair, my motivation isn't what it used to be).

I would maybe use another RC other than writing on your hand, the only reason I say this is because I have noticed in my dreams that I have been able to read a book without the text changing or becoming different.....So if you got used to seeing a word on your hand in waking life, you might find that in your dreams the word might actually be the same rather than change like it does for some people.

If your doing DILD's, when your doing Reality Checks always think that there is a possibility that you are dreaming. And try to visualize it, let's say you do the hand in hand trick. If you were to visualize your hand going through the other hand. Then it will work better, at least for me.
