      Simpler reality checks..

After I saw inception I thought, the "totems" they use are obviously a form of Reality Checking. I think it would be reasonable to make some sort of small mark on your hand or arm that only you would really notice like a small square or circle.

The RC would go something like this,

You imagine looking at your arm or hand but the mark isnt there, try and imagine it clearly.

So, when you look for real you should go in EXPECTING no mark to be there in a way.

When you finally look, think to yourself "I must be awake..."

      Could this method work?

Well, the only way i find this helpful, is to be discrete in public and not plug your nose looking like you have pressure in your ears every 5 minutes , that is if i understood the description of your RC. Other than that, i would personaly stick to the guaranteed nose plug. Inception got us all creative lately lol
My suggestion: Try it and post

All RCs are based on awareness. There are no shortcuts when it comes to awareness.

If you only focus enough on pretending there is not mark, it might work. I still don't see how that's more effective than any other RCs, or just awareness for that matter.

I actually tried something like this a while ago (maybe a year?) ...I had written the word "DREAM" on my hand for a couple of weeks and tried to train myself to look at it and read it all the time. Only problem was, I would look at it sometimes while in a dream and it would be a little scrambled or look something 'like' the word DREAM, and of course my brain would trick me into assuming this occurrence to be logical.

I have only known about the nose pinch method for about a week now and became lucid for a short moment last night. I think I like that method much better And, my nose isn't going to go anywhere any time soon (I hope!), whereas ink on skin/hand gets annoying.

But weren't you supposed to RC when you saw 'DREAM'?

That was the idea...but the only method I was familiar with at the time (from my own personal experience) was to grab something and read it, since most text is impossible to read. But after a while this method wouldn't work for me. My mind would trick me into thinking that I just read something that made sense, over and over, so eventually reading anything (including the writing on my hand) would rarely work any more. I would always have a false feeling of being sure that what I read made sense. And at that time it was the only way I knew how to tell whether or not I was dreaming.

I haven't been able to go lucid for a long time, but I'm optimistic about the nose pinch, since it worked so quickly for me!

Well, as interesting as it sounds, they only used the Totems in the movie, so they could make sure they were awake, they didnt use them to realize they were dreaming, because they always knew they were dreaming when they fell asleep, they were instantly lucid (for the most part)

I always have the words "Reality Check" written on my left palm, so whenever I look at my hands, I reality check, with the fingers, & nose method.

The thing is, when Im in the dream, "Reality Check" is still written on my hand, when im counting my fingers.
There was absolutely no difference in the way it was written, whatsoever.

So, that method doesnt work at all.
      At least for me anyways...

Hopefully, someone else has luck with it.
