      Sunlight Increases Lucidity

Something I learned that I thought I would share with the forum. I quote because it is from the book I am making.

      Sunlight

Have you waken up in the morning to your alarm then press the snooze button, go back to sleep, wake up and then find that you had a long vivid dream? This is because sunlight increases you chance at obtaining a lucid dream. This has to do with two main chemicals, serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin makes you feel more alert while melatonin tells your body to shut down for sleeps and also makes you more relaxed. Melatonin is also made from serotonin. Serotonin is made when you are exposed to light and melatonin is made from serotonin at night when it is dark. There is also another chemical called cortisol. This is used to wake you up in the morning but you can use this to increase your dream awareness. This chemical depletes throughout the day but then surges back up in the early morning.

      So why does this matter?

Know this will help you find a sweet spot for lucid dreams so if you find the right time; it would be the perfect time to WBTB into a DILD. When serotonin and cortisol levels are up, you will be more aware and alert while melatonin as I said is relatively high so it will be easy to get relaxed. This sweet spot is between 4:00-5:30AM but we will just call this the LD sweet spot...
Does that make sense to you guys? Is what I'm saying sound confusing in anyway?

Never heard of this before... But seems to make sense.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

If you leave your blind open just a little bit you will have more chance of a lucid. (Y)

Actually, I have heard of this. Apparently, any light, not necessarily sunlight, should work.

Maybe, but it should be noted that REM cycles get longer and (I've heard but not sure about this) deeper during the end of the sleep cycle. I've assumed that's the reason we seem to have long vivid dreams near the end of our sleep cycles.

Sunlight does not work for me. Sunlight and sleep do not mix. However, if it works for you... go for it! If you think something might help you LD, then it could. Call it a placebo effect or whatever you want. In theory sunlight might be a consciousness anchor but I find it just irritates me.

I've always been more of a day sleeper, I can sleep instantly during the day but it takes me awhile at night. I think I'll try to WILD when the sun rises.

Perhaps this is why I always have more vivid dreams after a long day outside. Now I just need the rain to stop.

Hmm, that would make sense. I haven't had any lucid dreams yet but I have had very detailed dreams, and the only time I have them are from around 7 am in the morning to 12 pm in the afternoon if I am sleeping in as in when I was sick.

I've heard about this in relation to awakening the third eye. It's suppose to really help, especially if you close your eyes and point your forehead at the sun.
Well I'm in the desert. I might have to meditate outside today. lol

Back when I was in school I used to take naps almost everyday after I get home after classes. In period from 3 to 5 pm the sun is incredibly bright and fresh, usually during the spring. Sleeping at that time, with curtains open and blinding sunlight right into my face always gave me most amazing dreams. It's hard to even put into words, they are so warm, nice, full of this sunshine. I've never become lucid then, I didn't know it was possible at that time. Now, when I'm typing this the sun outside is exactly like this, but I don't want to sleep unfortunately X)
But I think in my case it will definitely help me with lucids, so I'm going to use this as the advantage.

Oh, and I also have a photophobia, it's not severe, but it seems like I can only enjoy the sun with my eyes closed X)
