WILD problems due to general problems falling asleep?

I used to have severe problems falling asleep. By severe I don't mean lying awake for about two hours before falling asleep or waking up several times a night - that's what I do now.
At its worst, it used to take me some time in between three hours and six hours to fall asleep every night, I had a very light sleep and some nights I couldn't fall asleep at all, so I would lie wide awake being uber stressed due to lack of sleep until I had to get up again.
As I already mentioned, it currently takes me one to two hours to fall asleep, even when I'm extremely tired. This usually doesn't bother me at all and I'm quite happy since this is quite an improvement compared to the sleeping problems I used to have.

But it messes with my attempts to WILD a lot. I've tried it a few times (following King Yoshi's WILDing Tutorial) and won't even get anywhere near sleeping paralysis. Does anyone know how to change something about this, how to get someone who tends to have a hard time falling asleep anyways into SP?

If it turned out that WILDing will forever be impossible for me I won't cry (I already get a decent amount of LDs naturally), but I'd still love to try this

I've got the same problem. Not nearly as bad, but my average time is 45 to 90 minutes to fall asleep. I'm always on my laptop doing homework, playing games, programming, browsing, watching movies, or whatever. That might be part of it.

I find that the ONLY way I can get into SP is during an afternoon nap. However, for me, I need to be low on sleep, decaffeinated, physically exhausted, and mentally relaxed. It's been highly situational for me, and I've made it once or twice. From there I was either scared or I fell asleep. The first two times I hallucinated that I was suffocating.

The last time that I attempted a WILD on a WBTB it was too light outside (like 7am, I went to bed late). I ended up laying in bed for 2 hours trying to go back to sleep.

I had your problem, I was restless and couldn't fall asleep in a reasonable amount of time. In my case it was because of worries and being very stressed. I think it's important for you to find the cause of your problem first so that you can fall asleep easily. About WILD I'm not an expert, I only had one but do you know when did I have it? When I didn't look for it I was lucky, I know but every time I wanted to WILD I found my intention to do it was preventing me from falling asleep and I ended up with horrible sleepless nights. The one I had was after a WBTB after 5 hours of sleep ( I suggest you not ever to try WILDing when you first go to sleep, 99% won't work) my awareness was pretty high, I didn't think about WILDING, I just relaxed and out from nowhere I started having Hypngagic Allucinations. I don't know if this technique is for you or not, it mostly depends on how you're performing it and the quality of your sleep.

Deep breathing exercises and creative visualization. I have the worst insomnia of anyone I have ever met.

Aside what has already been suggested I suggest you brush up and do more research on the WILD, I suggest looking into Mzzkc's tutorials on How you fail at the WILD, his WILD tutorial, Billybobs WILD tutorial, and Jeff777's tutorial on SP ( all of which are top notch tutorials (not saying kingyoshi's tutorial is bad, but you need to gather as much knowledge possible)). I'm not saying to stop at that if you really want to get to it do even more research on it. Who knows the motivation may even spawn some DILD's inbetween all the research.

another bit of advice is to look into breathing excercises as said above^ and maybe even try experimenting with binaural beats as well.
