      SP problems, WILD

So I rarely get to SP when wilding, but after numerous attempts over a few months I realized I only seem to get to it when I'm not trying to. For example, I went to sleep for four hours, then got up, tried to WILD and I just couldn't do it. I stayed up for a good 3 hours until I felt tired. The thing was I laid down exhausted, and after some time I was jolted into awareness as the sensation of SP spread over my body. I feel like I was gone mentally, but the sensation of sp itself woke me up. I stayed there awhile, but I couldnt figure out what to do to move onto that next step. Also, for the rest of you who consider yourself decent at wilding, how do you find that balance between focusing to keep yourself aware and hit sp, but not focusing so much that nothing happens at all?

You can try setting your alarm for six hours after I hear that is an optimal time.

Going to bed too tired can be a bad thing and make it harder to have a lucid.

Finally what you should do when you are in SP, you should visualize a dream scene, picture yourself in the dream being lucid, and maybe like picture yourself doing a RC or hand rubbing. And stay perfectly still including swallowing, eyes, and let your body take over your breathing.

I'm not an experienced WILDer so i can't say anything about the last part.

Do not move at all. do not swallow and spit in your mouth. Dont itch your body, dont do anything. Its hard when you try because when you think 'ok ima wild tonight' your body amplifies all the negatives happening with your body. Basically you become aware of all the things that could ruin your chances like swallowing your spit or itching your itch.

Thats the point, how do you stay focused with the intent to wild..without having the intent to wild?

The true intent is to fall asleep. Not to WILD, but to "fall asleep consciously". Getting hung up on "I'm going to WILD tonight" or becoming too determined can actually impede your attempts. You don't want to put all this focus on just staying awake and thinking about how you'll get in a lucid dream once you hit SP; it's more of just letting your mind relax until your body falls asleep.

Like Reclypso said, after six hours of sleep is a better time to wake up. You might also want to try WILDing during a nap, five or six hours after waking up. It helps if you were fairly active in those hours, so when you finally lie down, it's easier to relax and get into SP. I find most of my episodes occur during naps, usually a little after 12 o'clock (I get up at 7 every morning, which means about five and a half hours of activity).

When you're WILDing, there's sometimes a fine line to draw between staying aware and falling completely asleep. It helps if you just let your mind wander, but you have to be careful because if you don't use an anchor, you'll drift off. Yes, sometimes when you WILD you might suddenly enter SP and be jolted out of it because of how relaxed your mind is, but that's where practice comes in. It's more mental discipline than anything else. I like to look at the backs of my eyelids when I try to enter SP, but not focus on any other parts of my body.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
