Try deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. When you feel yourself beginning sleep onset visualize yourself in a scene (possibly the last dream that you recall having) . Imagine yourself moving through the dreamscape. This, I have found, can lead to some pretty amazing non-REM lucid dreaming. Good luck to you!
