Lucid dreaming in order to "find yourself?"

This is something I've been considering, but lately I've been a lot more open to the capabilities of the human mind. That being said, I feel lost in this world, not fully sure of what I want to do and where I want to go. I need a lot of guidance, and I'm wondering if trying to lucid dream to ask for that guidance could benefit me.

Perhaps some of you have experience with this. If so, is it worth pursuing lucid dream with this goal in mind?

Mmmh I think in general I would say yes, lucid dreaming can help you "find yourself". However one might has to be a little more precise about in what ways exactly.

I would say that it can help you to get to know yourself better, be more confident with yourself, come to peace and so on, but I wouldnt count on a dream telling you "Move to <the next bigger town> and open a bakery".

For me personally I would say its not like lucid dreams advanced my life a big deal, but what surrounds the topic somehow did.
By that I mean becoming more aware, which generally improves life in my opinion, and spending time thinking about yourself and consciousness, getting to know your "subconscious" and thus making it somewhat less "sub"-conscious, integrating it into your personality etc..
Maybe try Meditation if you havent

Just keep in mind that its not really a shame to be unsure about what to do with life.. We live in a crazy world.. for good reasons humans have their difficulties getting to terms with how society works etc..
What is also true however, is that no one will make the decisions for you, not in real life, not in dreams.
So i guess dreams could potentially be of benefit to finding yourself, but its probably not the place to find definite answers about what you should or should not do.

I suggest reading, lucid dreaming: gateway To the inner self. It won't teach you how to have lucid dreams but it will show you what lucid dreams are really capable of. Most people just use lucid dreaming as their own personal playground. While there is nothing wrong with that, after reading this book you will realize that there is so much more to lucid dreaming than just flying around and living out your fantasies. I highly recommend it.

Yes. This is pretty much the only reason why I want to continue lucid dreaming.

I would suggest to anyone attempting to lucid dream to watch the free videos by Steven Berlin. You can find them here Good luck to you.

Yes, it is worth persuing. This is one of the reasons I continue lucid dreaming. As one of the previous replies mentioned, you should also try some meditation if you haven't. Shockwave has started a meditation class in the Dreamviews Academy section of the forums.

Definitely man, learning about the meaning and nature of life is why I lucid dream. In only a year and a half i've learned that my waking awareness is like comparing Earth to our cosmic horizon (28 Gigaparsecs across!). I've learned that waking life is just another facet of a dream that is very coherent and stable. Quantum Mechanics all but proves that. I am learning a lot about eastern religion and philosophy and it all started with me learning to lucid dream. It opened up an entirely new universe of possibilities and gave me a incredible and beautiful new outlook on life.

I want to use lucid dreaming for the same reason. And to just have fun.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

With my last 40 I was just having fun. Doing whatever I could. But recently I've been having some relationship problems that led me to think there's a possibility that lucid dreaming might help.

I remember a few posts about people getting complex to the point of making their subconscious into a character. I feel now that if this becomes my ability to connect with my subconscious directly, then I might be able to influence it. So I have that as a goal.

When I feel my lucid dreaming is gotten to a stable and consistent level (Huge dry spell lately :/), I would hope to have large amounts of control, but more often make days where I only passively observe and moderately influence in hopes that it affects me when I am awake.

      Yes, it is worth it.

This isn't really the same thing but...
I also find that studying for a test in a dream, helps me a lot.

Lucid dreaming just makes me want to write stories. Maybe you'll end up doing that.

some of those vids are actually quite good, thanks face

i think dreams (both lucid and non-lucid) are extremely useful for 'finding yourself', simply because everything you encounter in your dreams is a manifestation of your experiences (events, emotions etc). Your dreams are essentially 'you', and when you are exploring them you are exploring yourself.

and there's so much fun and experiences that you couldn't possibly have in your waking lifetime to be experienced and learned from.
