What do people mean when they say "Find my DG" on their dream checklist?

It's starting to confuse me. What's a DG? And what would happen if you were to meet it?

Dream Guide. I don't think it's very scientific though.

A dream guide is like a manifestation of your subconsciousness, in the form of a dream character. He/she can teach you different forms of control and sometimes make you lucid.

Wow, that sounds just amazing. Too bad I never see a repetitive part of my dream that could be a manifestation of my sub-conscious.

sometimes it doesn't show itself, in a lucid dream, you try to find it

Yes, I think a dream guide is a dream character that one believes to be a personification of their subconscious, like Raphael said. However, I agree with Bobblehat: it's not very scientific. It's almost a spiritual thing for some people, but I don't believe in it. What I plan on doing one day is choosing a particular person from my real world and summoning them in my dreams to be a guide of sorts, but I would never consider them to be anything more than a figment of my imagination.

And if it works, what would you call that person?

Its something or someone in your dream that guides you. That is the most basic definition. No reason for them to be any less real than anything else in dreams. Think of it like Gandalf guiding the fellowship of the ring to destroy the ring or Navi helping link figure out what to do in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They can help you with what ever you want for example they could help you learn how to use new dream powers like flying or summoning. Some people believe they are manifestations of our subconcious or external entities all together or just plane DCs but it doesn't really matter.

I liked this just for the references, although it is a good description.

That was the best description I ever could have hoped for. I prefer Tatl, actually. More attitude.

It's simply a dream character that can teach you to do stuff. For some, it's a manifestation of you/your subconcius. For some, it's spiritual. For some, it's simply a DC that is a bit more intelligent than the rest. Depends on your beliefs on the topic.

...Aww, you got me. It might be a different person every time, though. It would depend on who'd be easiest to summon at the time.

Midna was even cooler. And I'll bet that Phi (guide-to-be) will be even better than Midna!

Yes, my only point is that a DG doesn't have to be anything more than "a figment of your imagination" in order to work the way it supposedly does.

I went on a search for my dream guide, and ended up finding more than just my dream guide. While I haven't confronted her in a lucid, I've talked to her in many non-lucids, she always has the same feel about her, though her appearance has changed.

In my lucid's I summoned a character. I had the intent to find my dream guide, and when I turned around, I found a man standing behind me. Tall, black, wearing golden clothes. He radiated pure happiness. The first time, I asked if he was my dream guide, he laughed and said "When you meet your Dream Guide, you'll know it." The dream ended soon after that. The next day I had a dream where in another black man tried to murder me. He felt similar to the other, but instead radiated evil. I fought him, and he called a draw, took notes, and disappeared.

Recently in a lucid, I called out to my dream guide again. I stood in the middle of an empty room, and spoke aloud to the dream 'When I turn around, my dream guide will be behind me!' To my surprise, it was the black man standing there again. This time I was a lot more courteous, I shook his hand and said

"Hi, it's great to meet you, my name is Alex. Who are you?"
      "I am Alex."
      "Your name is Alex aswell?"
      "Yes, of course."

I'm led to believe that these two black men represent my positive, and negative aspects of myself within my dreams. While they're not my dream guides, they represent me. Just putting this here to show that characters like DG's come in more than one form, some people even have animal guides.

Actually there is a *semi* scientific theory about dream guides by Carl Jung.

Anima and animus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I haven't found my own yet but I have met a unique array of dream characters who range from just "thought forms" to some who seem quite self conscious and intelligent.

Is there a possibility I have met mine? Because I can recall a dream I am sure I will NEVER forget where I was apperently dead but only my mom, my fiance, and my son could see me. NO ONE else could. And I went to my mother (in whom seems to be in every dream that i can recall) and i asked her if i was dead, and she told me that she didn't know that i should check for myself and i asked how could i do that? and she told me to go look in the mirror and when i did my eyes were glazed over and i said oh my god im dead, but how can you see me! and my mother said maybe you should check again, and i started to argue with her, then she did something (THAT I do not recall) and I woke up.... could she have possibley been my DG??
