WILD may not be for me

I've attempted to WILD a few times since I began LDing. Last night I thought I'd give it another go.

After researching all the techniques and whatnot all day, I felt pretty confident that I'd be successful...at least to get to SP or HI.

So I went to bed at 9pm last night. I woke at 2.35pm naturally (couldn't recall a single dream, which is really odd for me). I figured that it might be a good time to try since it had been 5.5 hours. So after writing that I didn't remember anything in my dream journal, I went back to bed, and gave it a go.

I laid there completely motionless until 4.07am (didn't know that long had past). Nothing happened. No HI, no SP, I didn't even feel tired anymore. In fact, I couldn't get back to sleep once I gave up, and ended up staying up for the rest of the night. I was really stiff once I did end up moving, and made sure to RC to make sure I wasn't actually in a LD.

Problems, that I'm sure contributed...my wife was rolling every 5-10 minutes, and ended up kicking my legs 3 times during this hour and a half. But even with that, I remained motionless. Also at a few points, I had some twitches in my fingers, and my eyes also started twitching a bit at one point.

So, where did I go wrong? Should I not try this since my wife isn't still at night? Should I only try to WILD during an afternoon nap? And what about the twitching fingers, and eyes. Is this normal? Does it affect anything? I wasn't controlling it, it just happened - like a misfired signal or something.

      Thanks for any help!

You should lie completly still, the more distractions the less likely your even going to get into SP.
Yeah people spasm, my eyes do sometimes. Just ignore it.
If you are new to this maybe you should focus on DILDs, MILDs, DEILDs expecially with the wife putting you off.

Thanks...I'd say I'm on the 'newer' side. I started a few years ago, but have taken quite a while off because of having kids. I just started back up, and have had 5 LD - DILD's in the past 3 weeks, so I thought I'd give WILDing a go.

I think I'm going to stick with DILD's, and the others. I may try wilding during afternoon naps, if I get the chance. No distractions that way (no one home), and I won't be loosing sleep if I fail, and can't get back to bed.

I think WILD's at night just won't work for me due to my wife's movement through the night. Oh well, I'm getting better and better with DILD's - however random, I'm still starting to get them more frequently, due to practicing being more aware during the day.

so far I've only had one minor succes with WILD, but that still is a significant part of my LD count I think it can be a very strong technique.
what works for me is to focus on my breathing and count backwards from 100 eacht time I in/exhale. this way I dont focus on all physical distractions, keep my logical mind working and relax at the same time.
It is also comforting that too know that I will reach SP before I get to 1. my problem lies in staying passive during HI/SP and not losing the count and drift to sleep.
Before you start to drift and your soul begins to scream
I just wanted to tell you that you're listening to a dream

I just tried an afternoon nap WILD. Basically the same thing happened. I didn't have any distractions at all this time, but I still just laid there.

Every once in a while I'd have a swoosh type feeling wash over me, but a few seconds later it would go away, and nothing was changed. Then maybe another 5 minutes later it would happen again. I ended up laying there for over an hour. My body just won't go to sleep!

      What am I doing wrong?

Firstly, your room is way too active for a WILD! Unless you're dead tired, your mind is going to focus on the fact that your wife is moving and kicking you. Although you're trying to stay still and pretend you're asleep, simply being awake will mean you're more likely to think about the fact that there's movement around you, therefore not allowing your mind to relax enough. That could pose a problem, because in a WILD you're supposed to be so relaxed (not just physically, but also mentally) that you're almost unconscious. So, try WILDing during a nap or even in a different bed.

The twitching is normal; I get them when I'm relaxed and haven't moved in a while. Just ignore them.

If you were still for that long of a time without getting any results, you probably woke up too much. Did you do a WBTB, or...? If so, you might have been awake for too long. If not, do some more relaxation exercises next time you WILD at night.

Me personally, I tend to find more success during naps (even if I don't WILD, I find SP is easier to achieve). It's different for everyone, though, so you might have to try it at both times to see what's right for you. Also, don't get discouraged if you're not successful after a few days. WILD is a difficult technique to master.

When I enter SP or even the phase before that, sometimes it feels like my mind is expanding and I'm hyper-aware of what's around me. I might even feel like something big is about to come up, like a blast of energy or something.

      Good luck.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

You presume you have a wife. Now you are obligated to a presumed assumption of ownership of another human being. This is possessive, but what are you seeking to possess?
