      Best technique for newbie?

Hi guys, my name is Michael. I'm 14 and trying to figure out the best technique for lucid dreaming.
I can vividly remember a dream i had when I was about 4 years old, I was at my grandma's house when she said Bigfoot was coming. Being a child, I didn't want to see Bigfoot. So i walked outside and saw large footprints in the grass. This scared me and suddenly i said to myself "Ya know I'm dreaming, so I'll just open my eyes!!!" and i managed to force my eyes open. I laid there for a bit, then went back to sleep. It was the same dream, and i was still aware i was dreaming. So I opened my eyes again. This happened twice more in the same night until i got a good dream and lost my lucidity. I paid no heed to this dream until a few years later...
Recently, I discovered lucid dreams and this dream came to mind. When I found out i could've made the dream change or fly or anything else, I was mad at myself for not knowing this when i was younger so i could practice it >.>
So my question is: what is the best technique of lucid dream induction for a newbie?
      Help would be appreciated c:

PS: I plan on beggining to keep a dream journal starting tomorrow, if this will help.
PPS: I haven't had a nightmare since I was around 7, and I used to wake up in sleep paralysis when I was in 6th and 7th grade, none of these happen anymore. I also constantly will say in a dream "Oh. Im dreaming" but lucidity does not come, and I just go about my business in the dream.

Hi, welcome to Dreamviews! I might be a tad biased, but IMHO the best thing for beginners is MILD. I think this because as long as you at least give it an attempt every night, you basically can't screw it up and you're guaranteed to get lucid sooner or later. I have a MILD tutorial that's linked in my sig if you're interested.

      Welcome,
The best technique for some one new to lucid dreaming is either a DILD/MILD, but DEILD is easilly achievable.
I'm glad you are starting a dream journal, in my opinion it is the best thing about lucid dreaming, because non lucids are awesome too.

So I advise All Day Awareness + SAT + Mantra before bed, (Just repeat "I'm Dreaming"), and WBTB about 4.5 hours after you go to sleep.

      Here's some handy links:

Acronym List - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views (This is what all the abbreviations mean)
Reality Check Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
SAT - Sporadic Awareness Technique By Puffin
DILD Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
MILD Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
DEILD Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

      Need anything else, PM me.
      Happy Dreaming

      Hi and welcome to DV!

Wow - you sounds like me! I'm also 14, and had a nightmare as child, where I knew I was dreaming, and wanted to wake up. Haha.

But I agree with the others, MILD is a great beginner technique, but it's very different from person to person.

Good luck, and happy (lucid) dreams!

Special thanks to Darkmatters for my signature picture.

In my experience it doesn't matter what technique you use, it's the way you feel in the dream what's important.
Start a dream journal or just try to remember your dreams, and really try to remember the "feeling" of dreaming.
When you are more familiar with that you will start to feel that your dreams aren't just like dreams, they are experiences!
And this is where it get's easy to realise that something is wrong.
So that's how you get more aware of your dreams. But the most imporant thing (if you use techniques to induce lucid dream, which you probably will) is to not see a unsuccessful attempt as a failure, instead learn from that attempt and see it as a good attempt and maybe an experiment. And that's how you never give up, because when you have a lot of own experiences you have an own opinion of how dreams are like, and heres where you understand YOUR dreams and start to become lucid.

But if I am going to recommend a "technique" that's best for a newbie I would say MILD and to motivate yourself!
Just remember to trust yourself and not the technique.

      Good luck.

I think it really just depends on you. Look at the descriptions of each technique and find one that best fits your lifestyle and appeals to you. After that, search for some good guides you can follow involving that technique. If you end up choosing to MILD, Naiya's Guide is definitely worth checking out.

I definitely agree with Naiya. When I first started out lucid dreaming, MILD was the technique i had best results with, and i'm returning to that technique after trying to experiment with WILD.
      Good luck!

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

      Thanks guys C:
I'm gonna try the MILD technique for a while, I tried the WILD's a few months ago to no avail.
      I have another question:
Do Binaural Beats help with anything? I've seen a lot about them on this site, and I'm wondering about it.

Okay, good luck! Yes, a lot of people claim Binaural Beats help them become aware and achieve lucidity. If you are interested in them I would definitely give them a try.

If you want to try it, here are a few you can try out. Listen to them right before bed, or during the night.

      Love Signal 528 Hz
Lucid Dreaming Induction With Theta & Delta Binaural Brainwaves
Binaural Beats - Free Your Mind
Lucid Dream Inducement w/ Binaural Beats

      Good luck!

Yeah, I would try to stay away from WILD until you have more experience with LDing in general. When I started, i tried to jump right into WILD without really giving MILD a chance. It's kinda like trying to play a piano concerto after a few months of lessons...it doesn't really work unless your a prodigy But yeah, I'd agree that MILD is definitely the most reliable and one of the easiest techniques to learn, especially for beginners. Plus it'll give you a good starting point to build off of when you do try out other techniques. good luck!
