      COMPLETE silence???

I searched for a topic similar to what I want to share, and couldn't find one.... so here goes.

What's the best way to go to help induce lucid dreams? I was told that /complete/ silence is a great way to go. (You can actually hear your own body, it's freaky..)

But quiet environments tend to creep me out. I need some kind of background noise... even white noise.

Although I have had a pretty restful night's sleep in complete silence... but it's rare.

What are your thoughts? What about so-called "Lucid Dream Inducing Sounds"? I know of a couple, but I'm leery to try it...

Hmmm sounds interesting. By lucid dreaming sounds are you talking about binaural beats? I've never tried them for lucid dreaming but I might give it a go!
Also about silence... I don't think it's possible to get complete silence... theres always a tone at the back of your head, in fact I can even hear it a little bit when it's not silent. Maybe it's possible? Who knows?

Binaural beats are amazing, I listen to quiet a bit before going to sleep once in awhile, but I never actually use any while I sleep. In order to fall asleep I need all the silence I can get, which in my neck of the woods is hard to find.

If you have trouble falling asleep in silent environments, try either white noise, or binaural beats. You brain eventually filters both out anyway.

White noise, like a computer "idling"? I have the screen saver set to "blank screen".

Yeah, that could work as well. Anything that you are able to tune out.
What i really meant was a white noise soundtrack... it sounds sortof like a waterfall or a constant rushing sound.

I think a 'normal' noisy environment is optimal for dreams, your brain will take the ambient sounds and incorporate them into your dreams. Personally complete silence had been more of a nuisance for me than anything, but that's just me.

And that there changes my take on complete silence, now that I experienced a concrete influence outside of my dream.

Here's a quote from last night's entry in my dream journal...

"To ease the embarrassment on stage, the band continued with another song. As they played this distinct song, I had quickly awoken to the same guitar riffs being played loudly on the radio in my brother's room next door."

      Noise can go both ways.
I personally like a decent amount of silence, so that my progress in achieving lucid dreams and understanding of the dream are not interrupted; but after this experience, some sounds (to an extent) do give the dream flavor and a unique spin.

Complete silence would drive me insane as I have tinnitus (ear ringing) in both ears.

The ringing is almost comforting in a way... It's like... "I can hear my body's engine."

'They' say that tinnitus is the sound of electrical activity in the brain that is normally cancelled out in normal hearing. So, you are very correct!

I can't have any unexpected sounds. As long as it is a pattern, or a repeated, rhythmic sound, I can fall asleep. Even someone snoring is fine, as long as they don't snort at random times.

I think the best sound for lucid dreaming is whatever you are used to when you normally fall asleep.

...Like a clock or something rythmic like that?

I can't fall asleep comfortably without my fan on just because of the noise. Honestly a lot of the tutorials on here will be generalized, don't be afraid to experiment with what works and doesn't even if the tutorial says no noise. Also you can PM me if you want I have a decent bit of experience with lucid dreaming.
"For a long time it gave me nightmares, having to witness an injustice like that. It was a constant reminder of how unfair this world can be, I can still hear them taunting him. 'Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!'... How come they just couldn't give him some cereal?"
