[MILD]: Which language to use for the mantra?

I am a beginner and I have yet to experience my second lucid dream. I'm mainly using the MILD technique coupled with some awareness during the day and I hope this will eventually work out. The only problem is that as I am fluent with three languages, I don't know which one would work the best as a mantra; my mother tongue is portuguese, the language I am most skilled with is french and almost anything that I read (books, LD related stuff) is in english. Does anyone have any insight or suggestion for which language I should use for the MILD mantra?
      Thank you for your time!

It probably doesn't matter as long as you know what your saying.

Yeah I guess I'll use the language I'm currently thinking in my mind. But Wisardi, do you use Finnish for your mantras or English? Or maybe you don't use the MILD technique?

Just use which ever language you think in. That's what I would suggest.

The only problem is that the language my mind uses depends on what I've been doing recently, for example now I'm thinking in english although it is not my mother tongue, but if I speak to my family members it switches to portuguese and for school related matters it's always in french.

I dont really think that it is the language that matters, just the meaning. good luck.

I think the mantra needs to feel comfortable and right. Pleasing and meaningful. That way you enjoy repeating it like a song you cant get out of your head.

Definitely use whichever you are the most comfortable with.

If you're most fluent in French and are used to speaking in it more often, use that. You are simply telling yourself, after all.

Heck, it almost seems to me like your mantra could be gibberish if you personally still interpreted it to mean whatever you would want a good mantra to mean.

I see what you mean. I'm also fluent in two languages, but I mostly speak English, so I use my mantras in English. Like said, do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

but what if your mother languge is the languge that you dream with, but its the comon languge or (streat languge) that i talk with my friend and my family,in my case its a bit of arabic and french, but it's a poor languge, for example the word lucid and the word conscus and the word i will dont exist althought its the most confortobal because i use it every day,the languge that i study with is the real arabic (its a very rich languge for example we can name a lion with 90 name ) and there is a wide number of mantras that i can use,in the other hand i read all the LD related stuff in english,i even had an entire dream in english.

what to use? that's what i am confused about

I use both actually Mostly finnish, but sometimes english if I feel like it. I use mantras to improve recall and to wake myself up for WBTB.

I also speak almost only in finnish, but for some reason I think ALOT in english (perhaps media, pc games, TV and teh internets). This is why I sometimes like to use it for the mantras. Also it's a little bit more simple than finnish
For you, I'd suggest english instead of french. I didn't knew you also think in english, so I suggested french earlier.
Hope you get lucid again soon!

Although there are not direct translations of words like "lucid" and "conscious," there must be some sort of equivalent to the phrase. For example: "Lagom" in Swedish is a term to describe something that is just the right amount, not too little or too much. In English there is no one word to say that (atleast not that I know of that is defined exactly as that) so we say "not too much, not too little, just right." I would suggest that for mantras you use whatever language you most commonly dream in, and if there are no direct translations for a phrase like "I will lucid dream," just research a bit and find a close enough translation so that the phrase still has meaning and so that you understand what you're saying.

As most people who replied have suggested, just use the language you are most comfortable with. As long as you understand what it means you are saying it should be all right.

Personally, my native language is Dutch, but I use the English language a lot more. My mantras are always in English because I'm more comfortable using that language.

If you are comfortable using that language, then I don't see why it shouldn't work.

Don't just repeat the mantra without thinking about it, though. Really think about what it means you are saying every time you repeat it.

This is interesting but it makes sense, if you really feel the intention behind it I guess you can use anything you want.

Thank you all for your advice, I think I will stick with english as it is easier to express some key concepts related to lucid dreaming in english. Hopefully I will get some results after practicing consistently for a few weeks.

It shouldn't matter the language, just the intention. Like everyone else said, whatever feels comfortable. It's not really the words that matter, it's the feeling. Whenever I do "mantras" i don't even say anything, I just focus on the feeling and intent of what it is I want.
