      Too scared to stay lucid

Hello, I'm new here but I've been looking around in the forums for a while.

I'm into lucid dreaming for about a month and I have got lucid two times now, using the FILD technique. The problem is that I can't stay lucid for even a minute, I get too scared. I don't even know why, I just get that feeling. I even tried saying this is just a dream, I don't need to be afraid here, but I just end up waking up from the feeling. I must add that I'm easily scared in real life too, when it's dark for example.

Can I do something about it?

Well I was pretty scared of the dark a few years back, I still get pretty creeped out if I let my mind run. I'd say just keep at it, eventually you will become used to the experience of lucids and know there is nothing to be scared of

There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

Ive never really been scared of the dark , but i understand what your saying i think most people would feel the same ... the thing with darkness is you cant see whats happning , so walking into a dark alley for instance you cant see properly and that can be scary for anyone ... just try and relax when you get lucid i used to become so exited and too many idea's would fly around my head i would wake up ..Last night i had about 8 lucid's in a row !! most ive ever had and they all seemed to go for quite some time id say atleast 20mins each !

Becoming lucid is an eerie feeling. You should get used to the feeling with a bit of practice. Keep trying, and you will become more comfortable.

I used to have pretty bad nightmares, so I started using nightlight. It helps, when you wake up and your room is not pitch black.

Ahh, yeah. I know how you feel. It has happened to me a couple times before. It's just something you need to overcome yourself. When you become lucid just stop for a minute and take a deep breath. Keep reminding yourself it's your dream. You'll get over it soon

I also get a little scared. Becoming lucid is pretty damn creepy, especially so your first few times, it almost feels like your subconscious knows you're there and wants you out. But I'm the kind of person who actually likes a little fear so it never really woke me up before.

I think part of this might be understanding - do your research and have a clear understanding of what dreaming and being lucid entails. Find out how it is speculated dreams are formed, what it is to be lucid in those dreams and the fact that nothing can harm you. To me, any fear I had disappeared when I really understood that I was encompassed by my own dreams - that I was in my own seperate piece of reality and that anything in here can be (and is) under my control. When you understand your dreams - what is there to be afraid of?

With more experience, it will most likely go away
      From my rotting body,
      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

I would get frightened, too, when I first started lucid dreaming. I ultimately decided that it was my own fear of death. The thought 'Am I dead?' would invariably wake me up. About 10 years ago I finally relaxed and decided that , if I am dead, then death isn't such a bad gig. That's when my LD's really took off!
