      Calmness in a lucid dream!?

Ok, I haven't had a lucid dream in a while but I'm getting back into it. But almost everytime I would have a lucid dream, I would usually begin to kind of freak out or like have an adrenaline/sugar rush. I would go straight into trying to do the fun stuff in lucid dreams and it would most often become unstable and I would wake up. Any tips for just calming down, stabilizing the dream, and looking at the details, like senses, how the dream world is, how everything feels. That's what I really want to do but I can't seem to when I'm in the heat of the moment.... SO what do you think? I want to be calm the next LD I have!

It's really hard but the key is to not get so hyped up/excited about lucid dreaming. I had this same exact problem when I first began lucid dreaming. I'd be like "holy crap I'm in a freaking dream right now, woah it feels totally real!" and then freak out, wake myself up or loose lucidity. It can be very exciting.

However, try to remember to take a step back, relax, and take things slowly. Ease into all that fun stuff you want to do and try to focus on dream stabilizing techniques. Try starting out by doing something really simple, or just walking around, exploring the dreamscape and not getting too emotional. Good luck.

Ok thanks! I'll definitely try to do that, I think it will be cool just to walk around in what my mind has created for me that night.

      Finally calming down

I had the same problem, but after 20+ LDs I am finally not getting so excited I immediately wake up. Accepting the reality that you really might be sleeping (even when you believe you 'know' you are awake) is key.

I'm having the same problem. Although not from getting excited, but from trying to do something quickly, before my dream ends. (Most of my LDs are super short). What I do is I practice getting lucid during daytime - like getting a muscle memory. I imagine I just got lucid. I say 'Slow down' and I rub my hands, touch the wall, feel my clothes, smell the air and I say it out loud (or whispers) while I do that. I hope that this will transfer into my lucids and I'll do all this before anything else.

Become 'like Spock' . It is kind of like being dealt 4 aces and not getting excited. It's hard, but you can do it.

Ooh I like that idea faceonmars! That's a great way to think of it. I think I could use this pretty well too because I play cards a lot. The thing is remembering to apply this to the dream........
