      Lucid without knowing?

For years I have always been concious of the fact that I am dreaming, I used to wake up when I realised but 'trained' myself to stay asleep because I like dreams and was curious to see what happens in my dreams. I never heard the term 'lucid dream' until today! I never try to control the dream though, I kind of like to see what happens when I just let it play out. Anyone else like this?

I suppose you would be what is called a natural, which basically means you get lucid very easily, and if you never knew what lucidity was, then you never knew you were actually doing anything. It's quite handy to have, although some people who were naturals do find themselves losing that ability once they actually TRY to get lucid.

So yeah, try to get lucid more often now and have a go at controlling your dreams. It's usually much better than just sitting back and hoping something interesting happens.

If you are lucid you are already in control, however, I know what you mean. Sometimes the longest LD's are ones where I simply observe my surroundings.

What benefit would I get from controlling the dream though? Surely I would get less insight into my unconscious mind if I took over?

You can say the same for just letting the dream go on by itself. I was never one for believing that dreams and lucid dreams show you your soul or the inner workings of your mind. I bet if you looked back over your dreams, all you could be able to work out is that you like certain things and these things appear often in your dreams, and you often tend to be doing something that doesn't really make sense in your life.

For example, if you read my dream journal, you could work out who my friends are, that I like video games and some other tastes, and you might guess that I was in the army, but no, I do dream of holding weapons or fighting, but those scenes are just taken from the games I play. You would also know what my school looks like.

There's nothing deeper to be found IMO. So not being lucid is like going to a theme park and not going on any rides. It's pointless going there and not going on any rides if you have the money. You are not going to discover something about yourself (get the insights into your mind) so you may as well take a ride and just enjoy it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes I like to let my dreams play out, and just observe them like a movie. I find these types of dreams are much more interesting than sandbox lucids, where you run around controlling everything.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this! Personally I think my dreams do help me work through problems and I don't really see the point of controlling a dream? Wouldn't it be boring if I knew what was going to happen? Like watching a TV programme you've already seen?

That's like saying "I don't really see the point of controlling my life. Wouldn't it be boring if I knew what was going to happen?"

The point of lucid dreaming is doing whatever you want! Is there a famous person you want to meet? Do you want to go to the Amazon rainforest without worrying about an animal eating you? Or fly? Or breathe under water and swim with the dolphins? Or go back in time? Or maybe even create your own world?

I agree with you in some aspects shivle. But I believe that Lucid Dreaming is not only controling all the dream to do whatever you want.

I think that this way we can learn much more of ourselves, you can use the criativity that you have while dreaming to create great solutions for the problems of your "waking life".
