Angry I did 4 reality checks and told myself it was a lucid dream but i didn't attain lucidity, why?

I had this dream exactly a month ago: i was with some friends complaining about something while i was trying to push my fingers through my hand and one of them told me it was a lucid dream, so i tried to convert a cardboard picture of an ice cream into a real ice cream and it worked. Later in the dream i was in my room, i looked at my watch and the numbers were changing (the hour was something like 30:57). I moved a little and tried to jump to see if i floated back, but i didn't. Then i looked myself in the mirror and the colors of the dream changed to sepia and black & white. I tried to control them and they returned to their normal color. Then i told myself "this is a lucid dream". I remember the door was open and i looked outside, my mother was standing in her room looking at me. When i woke up i asked her if that happened and she said no. I did 4 reality checks, my friend told me it was a lucid dream and i told it to myself later, why didn't it work? I'm so frustrated because it's the closest i've been to a lucid dream and i have been trying for more than 2 months!

You DID have a lucid dream, otherwise you wouldn't have done the ice cream trick!

You had very good awareness as well. Also you have to remember that all dreams in nature are quite fluid. You have different levels of contol in a lucid dream. You don't always get full contol in them in my experience.

Often I get it where the RC check does not work myself. I even had a lucid dream (like yours) where I must have lost control and started stabbing myself in the left hand with a black ballpoint pen, trying to get out of the dream like an RC gone wrong.

Try exploring all your senses when you find yourself in a LD again to see if that helps. The other thing to watch out for is over excitement and false awakening moments - those can be confusing and frustrating.

      Good luck!

No problem! Glad I could help!

I do agree LD can be frustrating at times. No LD I find is the same. For example the last LD (See my DJ entry for yesterday - http://www.dreamviews.com/blogs/robstar/ - June 11, etc.) I had probably less than 5 to 10 seconds of lucidity. So a very short one in my case.

Carry on your practice and/or favourite technique - there are plenty of tips and tutorials on here to help.

      Regards.

Given the description that you gave and the fact that you did RCs and told yourself that you were lucid dreaming, it was most likely a lucid dream. Usually when you become lucid there is a 'eureka' moment where you realise that you are in a lucid dream, So if there was not one of those it is possible that you had what I call a 'fake lucid', where you sort of know that you are in a dream but do not become lucid, act differently or even really care. I had my first lucid on the first morning after I heard of lucid dreaming. After that however I had to wait about a month for my next, then they came almost every weekend(as I slept in).
