Are you doing any RCs and awareness training? If not, even if you heard the audio cue, you would have to realize what it is and without daytime awareness practice, it may not work. The sound may be presenting itself as just another sound in your dream and without awareness training, you will just accept it as part of the dream and never RC to it and become lucid. Hope this helps.

I will post and agree with gab. The brain can incorporate a lot of external sounds and stimuli into your dream without you even noticing it.

Awareness training can help you learn to recognize these sounds and experiences for what they are and do an appropriate reality check.

Incidentally what audio cues are you using?

I set my watch to beep every hour and i do a reality check when i hear it. I keep a dream journal but only record once when i wake up, so i forget a big portion of my dreams. I was thinking about getting into meditating as i heard this increases awareness? For my audio cues, i used my own voice but after about a week i switched it to a guitar strum?

Good luck with those headphones. I have always found them to be cumbersome when it comes to sleep. I also have a tendency to destroy ear buds in my sleep. I use my nifty MP3 player and some nice speakers.

      Every hour, eh?

Well, as long as it works for you there's nothing wrong with that effort. You might find greater luck only beeping in on your later dreams, say after five hours of sleep.

Meditating is a great way to relax and may increase awareness though you need not meditate to do this. Paying attention to your surroundings daily can achieve this.

The sound you use for audio cues matters not as long as you recognize it and get results.
