I dreamed that I recorded my dreams...

This last night I had a very interesting dream experience.
I woke up in the middle of the night (2 AM) almost four hours after falling asleep, and my dream recall was absolutely brilliant, I think my sound file was 8 minutes long and even then I still had to add some more on another sound file a few seconds later.
Anyway, the thing that really struck me was that right before I woke up in the night I had actually had a dream about recording my previous dreams from that night, and it felt very real.
And it also turned out that in some of those dreams I actually searched for dreamsigns (I have a clear memory of myself searching the floor and telling myself "are there any dreamsigns here?").
And as if that weren't enough, I actually had a short dream of myself preparing and writing this exact post right before I woke up for real.

I guess I would like some input from you here - what do you think of all this?

Yeah I have considered that, but my problem with that is that I always think I "know" that I'm awake, so I can't bother doing it.
But it really seems like I don't "know" for sure after all.

But I was also kind of curious on what this means for my quest for lucidity.
Would you say that these dreams can be considered "close"?

You should make this an habit, to turn false awakening (what you had last night) into lucids.
And yes, you might be close, I always dream about lucid dreaming before having actual lucid dreams

      good luck

This happens to me a lot! Including this morning actually... I really need to make a habit of being aware and doing an RC when I wake up, but I always forget until about 30 minutes too late.

Well of course you can't bother. In a dream you always think it's a reality. But that's the whole point of doing RC during day, so when in a dream you also do RC and get lucid.

If you don't practice RCs during day, you will not be doing them in your dreams.

this has been happening to me a lot over the last several months, where I write down the actual dreams I was having then wake up for real. i've only had one of those turn into a lucid after thinking to do a rc. the other night i had a slightly different false awakening as I recorded my dream on my phone (which I sometimes do). so far I seem to be more consistent doing rc's while awake than asleep.

This always seems to happen to me whenever I am regularly writing in my dream journal. I find it singularly frustrating when I have just had excellent dream recall and written loads and loads about my dreams... and then I wake up. Not only is my journal frustratingly blank, but I've just missed a chance for an easy lucid.

As other people have said, make a habit of doing a RC every time you wake up. Alternatively (or additionally), you could do a RC every time you record your dreams. Also, make sure your RCs don't become too automatic. If you're not seriously considering the possibility that you might be dreaming and just go through the motions of a RC out of habit, it is likely to fail when you are dreaming because that is what you are used to. One thing I do to keep my RCs from being too automatic is to use at least 2 or 3 RCs at a time and switch around which ones I use each time or invent new ones on the spot.

      Thank you for your replies.
Yes, I agree about trying to make a Reality Check every morning, because I actually had False Awakenings a lot a few months ago when I was really dedicated, and I did notice that it felt exactly like waking up for real and the only thing that really gave it away for me that it was a dream was that the light switch on my bed lamp wasn't where it normally is and that the lamp never worked during a dream - so if I couldn't turn it on then I would just assume it was a dream.
So one cannot really be sure whether it's reality or not until you're starting to move around and actually exploring the room, because the feeling of lying in bed is almost exactly the same.
