Getting lucidity... then losing it.

Lately I've been becoming lucid in my dreams... only problem is that the instant I become lucid I wake up.

I've tried falling back to sleep but I never fall back to sleep!

I can't just spin my dream body because I have already awaken! You see, the exact moment I become lucid is the exact moment I wake up! I don't become excited or start to panic because there is no time to (cause I already woke up).

Any Advice? Any help will be appreatiated.

I have that problem a lot, it isn't the exact like that but within 3 seconds. Normally can't even remeber to do something within 3 seconds.

You can try and do a WILD. They can be hard some times but if you get into a dream you won't wake up instantly. WILDs are you best bet. Other than that you can just keep trying and sooner or later you will get a dream that last longers. Some times I seem to have a lot of bad dreams for like 3 or 4 weeks straight but then I get some good ones.

I only been able to try this once(because I normally forget) but if you fall over backwards the second you become lucid instead of waking up for real you might have a false awakening instead. Then you just have to remeber to do a RC or you might not stay lucid. I think it might work if you start to fall even if you wake up before you move.

Hmmm. I sometimes have the same thing but I dont think you get lucid, you wake up and realise that what just happened was a dream, the split seccond you've woken up from your dream...

The second you wake up, begin doing MILD. It is your best bet to re-enter and begin a new LD.

Let me ask. Have you been dreaming for quite a while before you become lucid?

If so, it might be that you are ending a REM cycle. I have this problem a lot as well. I will have one of the longest, most vivid dreams that seems like it goes on for hours and it is in the last few moments I will become lucid. This just gives a few minutes of lucidity before the cycle ends.

Yeah Seeker, it always happens when I am in a dream for a long time. I never thought it was because I was ending a REM cyle. Since I need to become lucid at the beginning of a dream (instead of the last minute), a WILD may be the best thing for me.

CT, I never thought of that. That may be what's happening. However, last night I had a dream that I was in Holland and this guy was speaking in iambic pentameter. I realized that I must of been dreaming because I'm not going to Holland in another two weeks (and life isn't normally a Shakspere play). A second later I woke up.

So I was able to stay lucid in the dream for one second! I think next time I will fall backwards as Alric suggested.

This same thing has been happening to me recently and it's been making me quite mad.

The little difference is the exact same moment I become lucid, or realize im dreaming, is the same instant I wake up. However, for me it's always been a false awakening I wake up to.

I try spinning before I wake up (falsely) but then I just end up spinning around on my bed laying down. At this point I'll either get really scared and wake up or I'll re-enter a different dream and become lucid.

Yeah I had that too... Appearantly it's not that rare

I think it's caused by the excitement in realizing you're dreaming.
Btw, to me it only happened the moment I closed my eyes after realizing I was dreaming.
The moment I opened them and *poof* back to reality

para, I don't think the OP is talking about that. she said she doesn't have time to get excited, she doesn't feel anything, only realizes that shes dreaming right near the end of a rem cycle.

I don't have this problem but in a dream I had a day ago I got a low level of lucidy twice..xD...I was like in the dream..."Oh, I must be dreaming" Without any dream sign (Cause I don't have one yet as my dreams are very random) I guess I just felt it..xD...Then later in the dream it happened again..I had a low level of lucidy for a second and I realized I must be dreaming...then did nothing about it and continued on with teh dream..xD..My problem is getting a high enough level of lucidy to do something about the fact that I'm dreaming..

Well, Je33icaLy88, I have the same problem.......

If you find a solution first, let me know ok! And vice versa.

The only thing that I've noticed with me, is that as my insomnia gets worse and worse, my dreams get longer and more intense, and therefore chances of attaining and sustaining lucidy increase (usually via a slew of false awakenings).

But don't you go trying to contract insomnia! It nooooo fun.

Not sure if this will be of any assistance, but maybe you'll be able to apply it in your dreams. I have these dreams involving many random places people and things. All of which are familiar to me, but they are extremely random. During some point in the dream i compell myself into flying.
It requires a certain level of concentration (the brain is trying to remind you that flight isnt physically possible) but with a moderate level of focus, I am able to make flight possible. I believe i am not totally lucid at this point because there is some doubt in my flight capabilities. I've had this flight ability for a number of years now, but its never gone much beyond that. Untill the other night. While in flight (semi-lucid) my brain finally clicked in that i am truely dreaming. Then i went on a flying lucid binge that lasted a few minuites as far as i can tell. It was a blast to be able to fly everywhere without a second thought of doubt.

So i figure i eased into my lucid experience like an old man into a warm bath, slowly but surely.

I guess if your able to have semi-lucid dream experiences before you become fully lucid, its easier to maintain the experience for a bit longer before you wake up. at least for me anyway.
