      How does FILD work?

Just like title says. The method is about moving your fingers A LITTLE for 10-20 seconds, and then doing RC. I can't even imagine how it is possible to fall asleep in 10-20 seconds? Are we getting in some kind of trance, where fewteen minutes is like 10 seconds to us? Any scientific explanation for this method?

I'm curious as to where you got the 10-20 second number from. As far as I know an FILD is basically a WILD only using slight movements in your finger to maintain your balance of consciousness. 10-20 seconds indeed seems a bit short since WILDs normally take at least a few minutes, often times more.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the post. The guide says that you start moving your finger right as you're about to fall asleep, you don't start moving your finger right away. He says "Once you reach step 4..." which is practically asleep. The 10-20 seconds sounds more accurate when talking about just before you fall asleep/into the dream, especially if you're doing almost a DEILD like he explains. The finger movements sound like they're supposed to be the transition step, not the relaxation step which most of the WILD consists of.

You can't start moving your finger "right as you're about asleep", because when you're about to fall asleep you have SP and you can't move any muscle and it could break SP and wake you up.

You have to start moving the finger a little when you feel like you're really sleepy. I tried it this night, I woke up naturally after a dream, but I opened my eyes so it was too late for a DEILD. I was like, I'm too awake to do a FILD. Let's relax a bit. So I closed my eyes, I cleared my mind, and... SECONDS later I'm sleeping like a baby
