I'm having trouble lying still in bed

When I go to sleep I try to get that whole body dissociation thing going on when I go to bed by letting my body just "go into sleep mode through inaction" but whenever I try to lie still I just get very uncomfortable and "itchy" to the point where I just have to start moving again and then I get all my feeling back in my body and I have to start going numb all over again.

Anyone else have this problem? I suppose another question is does anyone else attempt this in the first place?

This is actually natural for trying to enter sp. You'll get itches and the urges to move but you have to ignore them. This is your body checking if your mind is still awake, if you move then you're telling it that you are therefore prolonging the process. I know it's hard from personal experience but you just have to grin and bear it

What helps me is listening to binaural beats through headphones. This usually gets me there in a very short time compared to without

      Good luck

Yeah this happened when I tried some binaural stuff so that's a bit irritating :/

I guess I'll just keep trying, cheers.

Do not do that at the beginning of the night. That excersise of concentration is to be made after a few hours sleep. For me the best thing is to try to do it when I'm still sleepy.

hmm how odd, can you go to sleep quickly if you're not trying this?

Yes. I should add that I normally don't sleep on my back but in this case I am because I'm wearing headphones for the Binaural tones. When lying on my side this isn't much of a problem.

That occurred to me in the past, now I just get accustomed. Just follow my system, stop thinking about that and tell your body "you're going to stay still even if you don't want to!"

Also, that has partially cured my OCD (either that or adolescence I don't know )

Whether your body feels numb or not means nothing to a WILD. You are allowed to move during your attempt. What's important is you are relaxed and comfortable enough to sleep. Your mental state is all that's important.

A WILD occurs when you manage to stay aware of what's happening at the onset of sleep. That's all there is to it. You can't be too aware of yourself that it prevents you from falling asleep and you can't let your thoughts wander so far that you've totally forgotten yourself and what you're doing.
