Need help with DEILD, and other various topics.

I've tried DEILD before, but I had an alarm and it didn't really end well. I always got shocked by the alarm and jumped, pretty much ruining my chance. This time I'm going to use the powers of mantras, and was wondering; why is it that you're not suppose to use 'will' or any future tense verbs in a mantra, yet many of the tutorials do use future tense? I don't mean to point out a flaw, it just has me confused, because I want to follow the tutorial, and I feel that if I put it in present tense that it may mess up the steps.

Secondly, I really can't map out my sleeping patterns. 1). I don't really understand how to, and 2). I have a pretty fluctuating bed time, I don't usually have a time in which I sleep, I just kind of sleep when I feel sleepy, so it's hard to map out REM and all of this. So I was reading the DEILD tutorial on the site (DEILD Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views) and it says that I can set up the mantra to wake me up after every dream, will that be good enough? I don't think I can map out the end of every REM state, it would be a lot easier for me just to wake up after every dream. Also, is the chance of sleep paralysis in DEILD high? I'm not really scared or anything, I just want to know ahead of time. Also, any other tips on the technique would be great! I can't wait to try it, I've been doing WILD and haven't had much of a success rate.

Don't worry, you won't mess up anything.

Your mind only knows NOW. The present. It doesn't recognize future. Everything is either now, or some other time, just not now. Same way, if you wish to do/have anything. Let's say you want good memory of your dreams. You imagine having good memory already and imagine having happy feeling about it. You don't say "I want to have good memory". You say I have good memory (even if at the moment you don't). That way your mind realizes, that having good dream recall is something you like having, so it helps you achieve it.

So its better to say "I lucid dream" than "I want to lucid dream". Also, because first one is the intent, second one is only a wish. Intent is much stronger than a wish. Intent is something that is happening, or is absolutely sure to happen. Wish is just something you want, but don't really care when it will happen.

It's good to be prepared for hallucinations or SP. Although you are very unlikely to get SP when you are totally paralysed.

I think that mantra to wake yourself up from or after a dream is better than being jolted awake by alarm. We already normally wake up after each REM is over. If you set your mantra to wake up after each dream, it may be in the middle of the REM so you can enter another dream easily.

For me, DEILD is not something I can do whenever I want. I have to wait for the moment, when I wake up from a dream, but don't wake up too much. So for me DEILD is just something that I have to let happen by itself. Best results with DEILD is when you waking up from LD, because then you are aware you are waking up and can stop yourself from waking up too much.

WILDing is not the easiest method to start with. I would really recommend you practice for DILD, be ready for DEILD and try a WILD every now and then. Happy dreams

Ah, I see the point in using present terms, I guess I was just wondering why most 'professionals' on lucid dreaming use future tense in mantras. For example, I'm reading Stephen LaBerge's book and when he was describing mantras, he uses future tense. Confusing I guess, but I guess it is just their way. But I'm not really sure, I'm trying to find the perfect technique for me, but I've been through most of them. I've tried MILD for a while, using mantras and reality checks and I only had one lucid dream and it was only for a few seconds before I got too excited. I've never really had any results with WILD, but I feel as if I will have great results with DEILD seeing how simple it is once I am able to sit still and keep my thoughts controlled after waking up from the dream.

Maybe he didn't read the new age books? hah, just kidding.

If future tense works for you, use it. But this idea of using present in intent is not just for lucid dreamers. I have heard this idea among others from a guy who knows nothing about LDing, but he is meditating and trying to learn about his higher self. He has an adviser who is pretty advanced and I guess he got it from him.

Maybe someone can explain it better.
