Don't worry, you won't mess up anything.
Your mind only knows NOW. The present. It doesn't recognize future. Everything is either now, or some other time, just not now. Same way, if you wish to do/have anything. Let's say you want good memory of your dreams. You imagine having good memory already and imagine having happy feeling about it. You don't say "I want to have good memory". You say I have good memory (even if at the moment you don't). That way your mind realizes, that having good dream recall is something you like having, so it helps you achieve it.
So its better to say "I lucid dream" than "I want to lucid dream". Also, because first one is the intent, second one is only a wish. Intent is much stronger than a wish. Intent is something that is happening, or is absolutely sure to happen. Wish is just something you want, but don't really care when it will happen.
It's good to be prepared for hallucinations or SP. Although you are very unlikely to get SP when you are totally paralysed.
I think that mantra to wake yourself up from or after a dream is better than being jolted awake by alarm. We already normally wake up after each REM is over. If you set your mantra to wake up after each dream, it may be in the middle of the REM so you can enter another dream easily.
For me, DEILD is not something I can do whenever I want. I have to wait for the moment, when I wake up from a dream, but don't wake up too much. So for me DEILD is just something that I have to let happen by itself. Best results with DEILD is when you waking up from LD, because then you are aware you are waking up and can stop yourself from waking up too much.
WILDing is not the easiest method to start with. I would really recommend
you practice for DILD, be ready for DEILD and try a WILD every now and then. Happy dreams
