lucid dreaming does not exactly work because of a technique, its your motivation.
I think this is good advice, I've been taking a similar approach to this. Techniques aren't sure-fire ways to become lucid in a dream. They are a way to focus your intention.

If you are already proficient in becoming lucid (or semi lucid) while you are already dreaming, maybe it would be a good idea to work on your awareness. Just ACTUALLY contemplate throughout your waking life whether or not you are dreaming. If you are persistant it becomes a habit that manifests in your dreams.

As far as recall goes, I'm finding that autosuggestion/mantra before bed really does make a difference in helping me remember what I had dreamed the night befire. I'll usually tell myself "When I dream, I wake up and remember them." I didn't receive instantaneous results, but after a few days I noticed that I was waking up 3-4 times in the night which I had not noticed before
