My recommendation would be to continue with the basic methods (keeping a dream journal, doing reality checks, etc.) It probably felt like a lot of work for not a lot of return. But if you want to keep having lucid dreams, then continue the basic techniques. I would consider adding a MILD technique into your regimen as well. Also, once you've had a few lucid dreams, you may find that it starts to get easier and lucid dreams come more naturally, although you will still have to apply effort.
The thing that I've realized as of late is that techniques "stack" and everything that you apply pushes you toward more lucid dreams more often. Everything that you do from reality checks to mantras to your dream journal to simple mental prep can better your odds at having a lucid dream.
