      First attempt at WILDing

I've been trying to DILD for a while but I haven't had much success. However, my phone went off this morning and woke me up so I decided that it would be a good opportunity to try a WILD. I began by focusing on my breathing to relax my body; I counted each breath and imagined myself swaying back and fourth. I was so tired that after about three minutes of this, I fell asleep. Since I fell asleep so quickly I didn't reach lucidity, but I did recognize that I was dreaming.

My dream began with my friend Mary and I running around in her basement trying to avoid a gorilla that was chasing us. We ran upstairs and left her house. Somehow, we ended up outside of Tim Horton's. We went inside and Mary ordered a cinnamon bun. After this, we went to a restaurant. I recognized the waiter as someone that I know in real life. It was my friend's older brother; I never talk to him so this was a dream sign. I instantaneously knew that I was dreaming. I told Mary that I was dreaming and I told other people around me. I didn't think to do any reality checks or anything..for some reason I never think to do them when I am dreaming. I started to get frustrated because I knew that I was dreaming but I wasn't lucid. I said to the waiter, "We don't talk in real life. You don't work here. I've never even seen this restaurant before. I'm dreaming." He agreed with me that I was dreaming and we laughed about it. But I still didn't do any RC's. After this I guess I just got so mad that I woke up.

For my first attempt, I'm glad that I at least knew that I was dreaming. I'm mad that I didn't do any reality checks or look at my hands etc.

Thanks for reading! I'm off to bed now

I knew that I was dreaming but I wasn't lucid.
If you know that you are dreaming then you are lucid.

Also, this seems a little off topic. I think that a post like this belongs in the lucid experiences tab rather than attaining lucidity.

Sorry it probably does..I just made my account and I'm not very familiar with the site yet. Can I move it to the lucid experiences tab?

You don't RC everytime, at least you don't have to. Sometimes you get lucid way before you RC. That's because your awareness gives you lucidity, not the RC. If you say you knew you were dreaming, that is a lucid dream. Why do you think you were not lucid?

It's possible to have a dream and to know that and think that you are lucid, but the "aha" moment never comes. Those dreams are called False lucids. They happen, when we think about becoming lucid so often in waking life, that we dream about it. These false lucids are more related to regular, non-lucid dreams then to lucids. But you can have more awareness in false lucids, then in normal dream. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

But the only requirement for a dream to be lucid is for a dreamer to know that he is dreaming, while in a dream. And I think what you had was a DILD. Since you fell asleep, then had a dream and then realized you are dreaming.

I didn't feel like I was lucid because I didn't think do do anything after I realized that I was dreaming. I didn't interact with the dream environment at all. I just didn't do what I was planning on doing once I had a lucid dream. I didn't think to myself "what should I do now that I'm lucid?" I just sat in the restaurant and i was laughing with the DCs about how weird it was that I knew I was dreaming. I didn't feel very self-aware, and for some reason I didn't really think that I could do anything other than just stay where I was. So maybe this was a false-lucid, I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah you're right, it was a DILD. But I think I increased the chance of having a LD by trying to have a WILD..if that's possible? Haha thanks for the help!

Yes, WILDing does increase your chance for a DILD. Everything you do that makes you think about LD and sets your intent gives you better chance to have lucid dream.

Being lucid and having good awareness and daytime memory accessible are 2 different things.

You can be lucid, but your awareness can be anywhere from very low to very high. Then it depends on your level of awareness if you remember what you wanted to do. Also interacting with dream or taking control are separate things from being lucid.

So if you feel you realized you are dreaming, congtratulate yourself. Job well done. You have achieved lucidity. Now, you can work on getting it again, but with more awareness. Happy dreams.
