Lightbulb Newbie problems: WBTB & More!!!

      Hey DreamView people!
I've been looking around this forum for a while and I have to say that there is some great information. But it is about time that I actually say something, so here it goes.

PS: I haven't had a true lucid dream yet; you'll understand what I mean in the questions.

Whenever I attempt WBTB, I cannot fall asleep in the first place. It's as if setting the alarm for the middle of the night is causing me not to fall asleep at all. I do fall asleep on those nights, but only after I've turned off the alarm. This also happens when I am thinking about Lucid Dreaming just before going to sleep. I don't think I'm excited or anxious about waking up, so I'm confused as to why this is happening. Has any one else had a problem like this? If so, how did you stop it? Or maybe just some overall sleeping tips? (I have never gotten great sleep. It normally takes me an hour and a half to fall

      More Questions for Some Pros:

      1. I have had 2 instances where I have a really short dream about lucid dreams yet I'm not lucid (like I'm talking to someone about it). Is there an easy way to make this a lucid dream? It's kinda difficult to differentiate these instances from reality since I actually do that when I'm awake.

      2. I have had many instances where I'm on the verge of realizing I'm dreaming but then I wake up. I don't know why I wake up because nothing exciting is happening. Is it possible that I get this because I am actually already waking up and becoming more conscious?

      3. What are some things I can do during my day to increase overall awareness? My watch beeps every hour and this is when I do my reality checks, but I've never seen or actually had my watch in a dream. My friends are always in my dreams and are an obvious dream sign. But I see them all the time in waking life and enjoy my time with them. When I'm in the dream, I just feel too comfortable to even contemplate my reality.

I can add more things, but I'll keep it like this for now. I need to know if my questions are too broad or too specific, so I will discontinue this list of questions for now. Also, sorry for any grammatical errors or horrible sentences.

      Thanks for any help,
      TheLandSquid

      Hi,

I'il try to answer some questions of yours.

      0. You might be making yourself somewhat subconsciously excited or hyped for upcoming lucid dream attempt. I used to have problems to fall asleep when i knew that big halloween update will be released at morning for Team Fortress 2,
I wasn't excited too much yet i had problems with falling asleep still

You can try some mix of mantra and relaxation techniques.
Tell yourself after setting up alarm that it's nothing big and your just going to be dreaming like always since being child. Dreaming and nothing more n' nothing less.

      1. We tend to dream about lucid dreams related stuf when we are excited for them. Similiar can be getting wet dreams out of slight hornyness, i guess?
Mental Prep here should do the job. During waking life you'd need to train yourself to do reality check or awareness tech whenever you talk about lucid dreaming with somebody, and have confidence (Or hope) that habit will bleed into the dreams after some time.

      2. It might be not mere excitement, it could be strong fear aswell or it might be just end of your rem cycle. Some people might get lucid or conscious when their rem cycle is near end. If your one of them DEILD Technique might be helpful here. Dream Re-Entry might extend Rem Phase.

      3. That's the point, even if your comfortable you should try to question your reality. Dreams are based on waking life experience, even if dreams are weird or impossible to certain degree they are based on our memories. Be it either reading Tolkien's book or doing marathon of all Harry Potter movies aswell it could be simply your daily life

      Hopefully i've helped somewhat.
If you have more questions i can try to answer them
      - Cheers
      I'm back! Again? Uhhh..

      Welcome

Will you please explain what you do during your WBTBs? And some answers to your questions...

      1. Sometimes I have dreams where I will be talking about lucid dreams and thinking about them. It's just another dream though. You might think that if you're dreaming about lucid dreams, you should realize you're dreaming, but that would be like expecting yourself to realizing you're dreaming when you're doing unrealistic things in dreams. You just have to train yourself to be aware and to look for moments like these.

      2. I have this too. I will be waking up then I will realize I'm dreaming as I'm waking up. I think it may be the same for you. You're not waking up because you're excited, but because you're just waking up.

      3. Don't always count on your watch to beep to do your reality checks because a lot of the time it may not even be present in your dream like you said. Try being aware of yourself and your surrounding during the day and every so often do RCs and take a minute or two to really pay attention. Try an observe things that you usually take for granted such as your breathing, blinking, and sounds coming from around you.

Feel free to ask more questions or send some Private Messages if you are more comfortable with that

It's late and I'm about to go to bed so I won't write a long response. But, I will take these things into account tonight. Thank you both!
