I'm not doing VILD anymore, but there's not much you can do about the mind drifting away as it's a natural part of falling asleep. The best you can do is to simply refocus and get back on track.

      Night 10:
I caught 3 FAs. In one my bed was moving but the other two I'm sure not sure how I caught. Maybe the lack of multiple sounds in the dream makes it feel off and inspires me to do a reality check. I find myself listening to the ambient noises lately as I'm falling asleep, sometimes as a reality check. Maybe this has something to do with my success.

I'll keep doing the same thing, just reminding myself of my dream goals and falling asleep.

^^That's a great result! I have focused on catching FA's in the past with some success but if you continue with this kind of success it may convince me to commit some focus back into FA's. I feel that one can only juggle so many things unless certain of them have become second nature. The good thing about FA's is they can also satisfy LD intention setting to catch general DILDs...hmm, I think I need to make a plan like you have been doing with your experiments. I enjoy experimenting but I need to add more structure to it like you are doing.

I only get FAs when my dreams are very vivid and/or lucid already. I wish I got them more, I'm getting reasonably good at catching them.

It could be that more of my dreams begin "waking up in bed," but I just don't remember....

I was just thinking, maybe there's more ways to wake up in an LD than waking up in bed. Would hanging on to the bottom of a helicopter as it's dropping wake you up? Tonight, I'll try telling myself before I go to bed my dream goals and that "When I wake up, I'll be dreaming."

Well, it goes without saying for me that when I get lucid I'm almost always in the middle/end of a non-lucid, so almost all of my "get lucid moments" do not involve any sort of FA or "waking" in that sense.

      Night 11:
No lucids. I was real close in one dream.

I'll go back to simply reminding myself of my dream goals and falling asleep.

      Night 12:
I had 2 DILDs. It could have more, though. Many dreams were about lucid dreaming, and a couple of dreams featured failed reality checks. I recalled probably near a record amount of dreams, although I don't know how many because I didn't write any down...I should get back on that!

I'm thinking MILD might be more effective than auto-suggestion, which I've been doing. Tonight, I try setting my dream goal intention and staring at the back of my eyelids until I see the dream.

I caught a FA. I missed a couple but the house was high in activity and noise which made it more difficult.

Tonight, I simply make my dream goal my last thought before I fall asleep.

No LDs. I missed a false awakening which made me frustrated.

I've been missing false awakenings lately. Usually when I set the intention to catch them, I start catching them again. I wish I knew how to induce them.

Maybe I should solely focus on catching false awakenings.

2 DILDs. I missed another false awakening but also caught one.

I started experimenting with doing reality checks as I'm about to fall asleep. An aggressive mindset with doing reality checks seems to be better than a timid one.

      Night 16:
I had 2 DILDs and 2 DEILDs. I think with DILD, all I have to do is pay attention. With DEILD, I have to stay still, think "I wanna DEILD" and then make the ringing in my ears as loud as possible until my bedroom fades into view.

I'll try the same thing tonight.

      Night 17:
      I had a WILD and a DILD.

By paying attention, I mean paying attention to whether I'm awake, consciously asleep, or dreaming. I figure I go from being awake to consciously asleep once my thoughts become illogical and go from being consciously asleep to dreaming once I experience HH. I'm not trying to WILD, I'm just trying to be aware of which state of consciousness I'm in, knowing recognizing I'm dreaming will be part of that.

I'll try the same thing tonight.

No LDs. Just wasn't my night tonight.

I'm curious what would happen if I only focused on recall. I'll try writing down my dream goal in my dream journal at the beginning of the night and then recall as many dreams as possible, doing a reality check every time I wake up.

No LDs last night! Ahhh!!! Dryspell!!!

I was real close to a WILD. We'll see how I pull out of this, though.

I've got a clean slate now. Having no LDs in 2 days, I imagine I've forgotten how to LD, so I have to teach myself all over again. Good practice for mentoring!

Where's the emoticon for the "awww poor baby, the smallest violin in the world, playing just for you"? I've had something like 14 LDs in all of 2015 so far, and only a few of those really good ones! So

edit: I can't wait until my dry spell is "2 days" . Jelly much! Keep up the good work in the informative night work log!

      Night 22:
      I had 1 DILD.

Upon first falling asleep, I concentrated on my mantra, "I'm dreaming," figuring that if I continued the mantra all night long, eventually after a repetition, I'd actually be dreaming. So, inside the first dream of the night I said "I'm dreaming," to which a voice replied "No, you aren't" to which I replied "Okay!" right before the dream ended. I had no success with this as I wasn't focused enough until the end of the night, when I ditched "I'm dreaming" and used only my breath for my mantra. So, a second before my last dream ended, I became lucid and was able to save the dream as it was blacked out and turn it into a nice DILD.

Tonight, I'll try to do a motionless reality check after every breath upon falling asleep, knowing after one of those breaths I'll be dreaming. I'm going to call this "All Night Awareness" (ANA).

LOL @ "No, you aren't." "Okay!"

Haven't come across that one yet, but probably will in the next 600 LDs or so .

My new All Night Awareness hasn't been working out. I don't know what to do now. I think I'll go back to repeating "I'm dreaming" in between breaths. It's not the best but at least it's consistent.

Dolphin you should try going back to VILD.

I've had success with VILD in the past, I'm actually very good at visualising things so your thread has encouraged me to try VILD again.

      Night 25:Whelp, I had 5 LDs last night, 1 WILD, 4 DILD.

I went back telling myself my lucid goal and staring at the back of my eyelids until the dream starts. This is a technique that I've said before multiple times that I will never ever deviate from but for some reason I've failed to do that.

VILD drains me out mentally and doesn't produce the results I would like. As far as teleporting, I've found it's a lot easier to simply jump into the void to erase the visuals of the dream and visualize where I want to be. I only have to visualize for about 5-10 seconds in the dream rather than 600 to 900 seconds while falling asleep.

So, tonight, I tell myself my lucid goal and stare at the back of my eyelids until I'm dreaming.
