Hey abbydemi and welcome to dreamviews! First off, I'm not the most experienced LDer so you may want to wait for someone who is more experienced to come along, but I'll just throw in my own 2 cents anyways. First off I think that everybody dreams in different ways from what I've read. Some people in 3rd person, some in first person, and some may have no dream body at all, etc. I dream in 1st and 3rd person (I think it's kind of hard to explain but I can't really tell how I perceive my dream...I'm just there kind of lol). No matter what my dream starts with though (for how I perceive it), when I become lucid it has always gone to first person immediately. However, even if you don't switch to first person I'm pretty sure I have read other posts of people talking about this, and they still can control themselves the exact same way and feel things just like it's them, but they just view the dream differently. Again I'm not 100% sure on that. Hopefully someone with more experience in this will come along.

If you want to get into first person though, what if you would try to move your view into the person when you became lucid? You could imagine that your eyes are disconnected from your body and then you could move your eyes (which is your view) onto yourself and then you'd be in first person. You can get creative and do other things too if you didn't like that, it was just an example. I'm thinking that should work, but I wouldn't know because I've never tried to do it before.

Good luck! And I hope you enjoy it here!

First off what works for some people might not work for others, since everyone is different. I recommend that you start looking here Induction Methods and Techniques
Those are some great tutorials for anyone here. I recommend first reading the DILD, Reality Check, and MILD tutorials. If you want you can also read the other tutorials and do those at the same time, it's just extra work so if your motivation isn't very high or drops quickly, you may want to wait until you're a bit more experienced to try WILD. However, it's your choice so if you really want you can start with WILD, it's just a bit more challenging.

There are plenty of great tutorials here on DV and you can find them all around. Another technique that I've heard about that's good, which I'm just starting to try, is SSILD. http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...eam-ssild.html I don't personally know how well that technique works though, as I haven't had a chance to practice it yet. But from what I've heard it seems to work well and is a good technique for beginners.

You can also join the DVA classes at DV Academy

You can get plenty of personalized help there. And I recommend you start a workbook in either the Intro Class or DILD class...both are great!

If you need help with anything else, feel free to ask me or anyone else on this forum!

Yes WBTB is very good and increases you chances of having an LD by a lot! You an combine the WBTB with a MILD as well.

And do you mean should you repeat a mantra and visualize yourself becoming lucid in a dream? Yes when I do MILD I usually just imagine a past dream I had and imagine myself becoming lucid and then carrying out a lucid goal I have for myself. While I'm doing this, I'll also repeat "I'm Dreaming" periodically to hopefully get that thought to transfer over with me to my next dream. So then in the dream I'll think "I'm Dreaming" or I'll remember that I'm dreaming and then I become lucid. That was just a very brief overview of what I do for MILD. So yes, mantra are helpful IMO.

Hopefully that was what you were asking.

The recommended times are 4 1/2 hours or 6 hours into sleep. However, you can experiment a little bit with this to find out what works best for you.

Yes it can be any dream that you imagine. And you can make up something completely new, but it's a bit harder and it may not work as well (not sure though). It's just better to use any past dream. All you have to do is imagine yourself becoming lucid in it and then going on to complete any goals...repeat until you fall asleep.

And no you won't go through sleep paralysis since you are not WILDing.

I failed so badly! so I went to sleep normally. then woke up at 6:30 from wbtb and couldn't remember any dreams. so then I walked around and got a drink and stuff went back to bed and did the mantra and dream scene. took me an hour to fall sleep! when I woke up I seriously couldn't remember anything..

Don't worry about it! Sometimes you won't fall back to sleep and that's OK. If that happens and you realize you can't fall asleep you should immediately stop doing the MILD and focus on sleeping, not worrying about whether your MILD is going to work or not because you can't have a lucid dream unless you are asleep.

You can also do really short WBTB where you just get up, go to the bathroom, and then go to sleep again. Also, waking up earlier in the night may help as well.

ok thanks, I actually went back to sleep for an hour from 9:30 to 10:30 and had 4 dreams! I was finally in first person! no lucid, but very good dreams! and btw as I was going to sleep I was thinking of the mantra: when I wake up, I will remember my dreams." over and over and it worked! I had driften to sleep with that in my head and then I remembered 4 dreams it was great! all the dreams were in first person. this may be a good sign as I will be getting closer and closer to lucidity!

Don't hope for a lucid, know that you are going to have a lucid.

Remember that you should try a technique for at least a month before you quit doing it. That gives it sufficient time to kick in and start working. And yes I think that waking up earlier will help...good luck getting that LD.

ok, I KNOW I am going to lucid tonight! yea! trying to think of a new mantra haha and since I dreamed 4 dreams last night, I have a variety to choose from now for the past dreams visualization! oh and could a possible dream sign be stairs? I am upstairs in most of my dreams.. or part of them.

Yes dreamsigns can pretty much be anything if they occur often enough in your dreams. So go right ahead and RC every time you see them stairs!

There's a good thread on recall
And just say to yourself something like "I remember my dreams" before going to bed at night. You have to really set your intention that you want to remember your dreams.
Also, don't forget to use a dream journal because that's the most important way of remembering your dreams and training your "dream memory muscle".
