Now THAT Really Was Weird! - Please help :-/

So i started my ssild last night, i had 1 semi lucid type dream but then later on in the night / early hours i realized that i was lying in bed awake. I had no idea how long i had been awake or if i had even been asleep but anyway what happened next was super weird ... As i lay there deciding whether to do another ssild or go back to sleep i had a little bit of dribble coming out of my mouth and rolling down my cheek. As each tiny dribble rolled down my chin in made a magical and musical type of echo sound like a 'booiinggg' I thought, now thats weird!

I had the clarity of mind to realize that although I felt 100% awake, i must in fact be dreaming, having a false awakening. I remained calm but excited because i know that this type of scenario can be turned into an obe / lucid dream etc as i was now conscious that i was in rem sleep.

I was unsure what to actual do next so i grabbed my nose and done a reality check - big mistake as the reality check failed, i must have used my physical body to do the nose plug and this woke me for real

On reflection i realized that doing a reality check was not logical, it didnt make sense because i already knew i was dreaming at that point (unless i really DO have magical sounding dribble lol)

I want to know what best to do in case i find myself in this situation again

Should i attempt to 'roll out' and separate from my sleeping body at this point? Whats the best line to take to get lucid dreaming from this type of false awakening?

      thanks guys

      Hey there,

For me I've found that just before falling asleep and just after waking up, dream sensations can appear (or linger, in the case of waking up). At the same time, while sleeping, sensations from waking life can seep into dreams (sounds, temperate, lights, the feeling of having to go to the toilet). Sometimes, if I'm in just the right state, I can find myself on a sort of border state where I'm processing both waking sensations and dreaming sensations at the same time.

It usually doesn't last long, because I invariable tend to focus on one or another. Focus on the waking sensations and I'll wake up. Focus on the dreaming sensations will often pull me back into a (lucid) dream.

      Might work for you too.

In that liminal state, there's a real risk of accidentally moving your physical body by mistake when you intend to move your dream body, as you discovered! So the safest kind of movement or RC is one that your physical body cannot replicate. Try to float directly up or down, or try to rotate horizontally around a central axis point. Your physical body is not capable of these movements, so your intentions are more likely to result in dreamed rather than real motion--and at the same time these actions will serve as a handy RC, since if you can successfully float or sink or rotate in this way, you're definitely dreaming! There's no need to nose-plug. I usually start with tentative, unnatural movements like this until I feel well-enough integrated into my dream body that I'm confident I can safely get out of bed.

Thats real interesting and makes great sense, I think a reliable non movement reality check is key to turning this type of scenario into an 'obe' or lucid dream. Can you please expand on your answer as it seems you are experienced in exactly what im trying to overcome please :-)

Because i use SSILD, i find myself many times just laying there eyes closed in bed, most times i have no idea if i have just woken up or if i have been awake for a while. I do though realize that i could be in a dream and dont want to miss these opportunities

Just this morning, i found myself laying in bed 'awake'. Although i felt awake, i knew that it could be a realistic false awakening. I started to 'wiggle' my hand and i felt that there was movement from my 'dream body' but when i tried to get up it was for real so i really need to master the technique that you personally use as above

Also, one last thing please, i have a clock tick tocking all night. Do you think this could help in this situation ie: would the tick tock sound different or maybe even silence altogether in an FA?

Any help is really welcome as this is something i really need to master

      Thanks
