DEILD is my primary technique, and I've found that the primetime for REM is around 5-6 hours sleep. For example, if I went to bed at 10:00, I would likely wake up around 3:00 to 3:30.
That being said, I've had multiple DEILDs that occurred around the 7-8th hour. It mostly depends on the person. Like Iriba said, try using a mantra to help you focus; one thing I've tried is using a 5 second alarm that wakes me up just slightly so I can have a lucid.
Keep your mantra simple, like: "Stay still. Eyes closed. Enter the dream." and keep it in the back of your head as you go to sleep. Most of all, you're going to need a lot of intention to follow through with it. In my years of lucid dreaming, no technique is more powerful than having intention and motivation.
