How much do you wake yourself up for a WBTB

      hello all.

iv been haveing a bit of trouble with WBTB / WILD. how much do you wake up?

because the other night i stayed up for about 15 mins. i didnt feel tired at all, so gave up the WILD after 15 mins of just lying there.

then last night, i used the saltcube timer to just beep 9 times at 4:30, so i wouldnt have to move to turn it off. this morning i woke up vaugly remembering hearing a beep in the night.

-how long do you stay up (if at all)?

-how sleepy are you when you go back to bed?

      thanks for any advice chaps

There is a large range of how long individuals stay awake. Some members only stay up for a few minutes, some just long enough to go to the bathroom and get a drink, other stay up for over an hour.
      It depends on the person.

I suggest you test it out. Getting up five minutes longer each night.

thats a good question! i agree with the post above it depends on the person

I am usually sleepy when i wake up at 5am so I have to do some activity that will awaken me a bit so i dont immediatly fall asleep when i lay down. I stay up for about 20 mins and listen to music and sometimes play a few games. so yea like the above post said, try out different stuff and record it in your dream journal

      good lucky

I just stand up, walk over to my dresser, do a reality check then go right back to sleep.

      (try it)

remain conscious for a wbtb wild.....otherwise it would be a wbtb dild or deild.

As for me I'll stay up long enough to write in my journal and play a few rounds of whatever is in my video game system at the moment. So sometimes 30 mins....sometimes an hour. Sometimes I'll just stay up as long as i can until I get tired again. All of it changes because I'm such a sporadic sleeper.

If I've gotten 8 hours or so of sleep....I'll just go to bed in the middle of the day...way later on and try one. But if I've abruptly waken up after 5 or less...I'll try it within the next hour. If you're the type of sleeper who really scheduled, you should try staying up for about 10-20 minutes....it'll give you a minute to get that pee out of your system, and write what you dreamed about. Because theres a really high chance you'll forget what you dreamt about after the wild attempt....especially if it's successful.

Oh and another thing, I've been successful on quick and delayed wake back to bed wilds. It just depends....and make sure you have a lot of confidence. To me, it's the most important factor above all else. Elimate doubt, and just do it.

you want to still feel tired, but not groggy. So you can concentrate, but still go back to sleep. I don't even get out of bed unless I need to use the restroom. I don't even turn on the light to write in my dream journal. You can hardly read my handwriting, but it's the actual writing part that gets me to have an LD once I fall back asleep. If I get up any more than that, I'll never fall back asleep! You just have to use trial and error to find what works for you. It took me a while to figure it out but once I did, it worked really well.

Just remember that even if it takes forever, don't give up so easily. One night I laid there for... I don't even know how long. It seemed like a really long time, but I just kept concentrating and once I fell asleep, I had my best LD yet.

so its not going to be any quicker than a normal WILD right? I can never reach SP.. i feel all tingly and everything, but never feel as if I'm constrained or unable to move, I dont even hear any hallucenations or see anything.. I think I tried it for almost 1 hour and 15 minutes.. and I just gave up.

don't worry about SP....some people don't even experience it while WILDing...I find WBTB wilds happen much quicker than the normal ones because it's easier to let your body go to sleep.

Yes, WBTB WILDs after 6+ hours of sleep (depends on the person) should be generally faster than trying to do one so far out of REM. That's only true in my experience though.

Personally, I can't do a successful WILD unless I'm dead tired, not groggy, and have an empty bladder. As said before, though, everyone has different conditions that must be met in order to WILD successfully. The same is true for the actual WILD method you employ. It takes a lot of trial and error, but it gets easier after the first couple. The trick is finding what works for you.

I set my alarm for 2 hours after I think I'll fall asleep. Once the alarm goes off I write down my dream and reset my alarm for 2 hours ahead. I then wake up and write down my dream and then set my alarm for 1hr 35min ahead. Then I wake up write down my dream and set the alarm for 1hr 15min and then for 1hour each time I awake after that.

I don't stay awake anymore than 15 minutes after waking up. This will cause you to accidentally fall asleep normally most of the time, but out of my 21 recorded Lucid Dreams, 8 are WILDS. That means 38% of my LD's are WILDs. Of course this is based on my own personal REM pattern and I am still tweaking it to "catch" the most dreams, so the alarm intervals may not work for you.

For some reason I have no luck with DEILD. I think it is because my alarm is really loud and jolts me awake, lol.

I have trouble waking up at all. *Alarm buzzes, slams button, groans and drifts back to sleep*
